Pokemon GO Increases Storage Limit for Players

Pokemon GO has raised the storage capacity for Pokémon to 9, 800 and item storage to 8, 800.
Players can acquire storage upgrades directly from the in-game shop, enhancing their experience during upcoming events.
The increase in storage coincides with the global phase of the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova event.

In a recent update, Pokemon GO has announced a significant increase in storage limits, adding 500 spaces for both Pokémon and items. Players frequently collect various items by spinning PokeStops, catching Pokémon, or participating in events, which often leads to running out of storage space, especially for avid gamers.

To adapt to the growing content and features within the game, Niantic has progressively expanded Pokémon GO’s storage limits. In 2023, the capacity was raised to 6, 300 Pokémon and 7, 300 items. By the end of 2024, this limit increased again to 9, 300 for Pokémon and 8, 300 for items, which took many players by surprise due to the timing of the update—it occurred without any major events scheduled.

Enhancements Just in Time for Upcoming Events

Now, trainers have even better news: the Pokémon storage limit now sits at 9, 800, with item storage reaching 8, 800. To access these new storage upgrades, players need to visit the in-game shop. This enhancement enables trainers to fully immerse themselves in the concluding days of Pokémon GO’s Dual Destiny Season, which began on December 3, 2024, and is set to conclude on March 4.

Typically, Pokémon GO’s storage expansions are strategically aligned with major events. This year, however, the update was announced only after the in-person segment of the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova concluded. As players gear up for the global phase of this event, occurring on March 1-2, they will have the chance to capture exclusive Pokémon such as Black Kyurem and White Kyurem. Additionally, trainers may find shiny versions of Meloetta and Deerling, similar to those previously available during the events in Taiwan and the USA.

The storage enhancements are not only beneficial for the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova – Global but also serve as a prelude to the upcoming Pokémon GO season. Throughout the Dual Destiny Season, new Pokémon were introduced, including Sinistea, Polteageist, and Shadow variants of the Regi trio, as well as new Max Pokémon like Gigantamax Lapras, Kingler, and Machop. Although details about the next season remain undisclosed, players can still engage in battles with Mega Garchomp in raids until March 4, and participate in a rotation of formidable Pokémon from February 24-28, showcasing various Genesect forms.
