PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced Label Requirements Revealed; 28% Faster RAM, 45% Faster GPU Confirmed

In order for games to be granted the PlayStation 5 Pro label, known as Trinity Enhanced, they must include a Pro-exclusive display mode that is capable of delivering both 4K resolution and a consistent 60 frames per second.

According to Insider Gaming’s latest report, the Pro Enhanced label will be reintroduced for PlayStation 5 games that fully utilize the system’s power. Similar to the PlayStation 4 Pro, this label will be reserved for games that feature a Pro-exclusive display mode, which combines PSSR for upscaling to 4K resolution, a consistent 60 frames per second, and enhanced ray tracing effects. These enhancements will be made possible by the PlayStation 5 Pro’s faster RAM (28%) and GPU (45%) compared to the base model. Overall, the Pro model will be 45% faster and have double the rendering speed thanks to these improved components.

Despite this, Insider Gaming clarifies that games can still earn the Pro Enhanced label by providing just one of these upgrades compared to regular PlayStation 5 games:

  • Increased target resolution for titles that run a fixed resolution on the standard console
  • Increased target maximum resolution for titles that run at variable resolution on the standard console
  • Increased target frame rate for titles that target a fixed frame rate on the standard console
  • Inclusion of PS5 Pro Raytracing effects

Therefore, there is no guarantee that games will be able to simultaneously support both 60 FPS and ray tracing.

The CPU of the PlayStation 5 Pro will also receive an upgrade, although it may not be as significant as the enhancements to the RAM and GPU. Nevertheless, users can expect noticeable improvements as the Zen 2 CPU will be denser, resulting in reduced power consumption, improved cost efficiency, and a more compact design for the console.

The potential release of the PlayStation 5 Pro in late 2024 has been circulating as a rumor, but it seems that developers are not particularly enthusiastic about it. We will continue to provide updates on the system as more information becomes available, so be sure to stay tuned for all the latest news.
