Pixel 8 Has a Strange Scrolling Issue, But Google Says Users Will Have to Wait For a Fix Until Later This Year
Despite Google’s continuous efforts to enhance the Pixel lineup, only a few design modifications and feature enhancements have been introduced each year. While the Pixel 8 series was well-received by the smartphone industry, the company fell short in addressing the persistent stuttering and scrolling problems. It should be noted that Pixel phones have been plagued by these issues for some time now, and although the company has acknowledged them, the solution is not expected until the release of Android 15.
Google Addresses Pixel 8 Scrolling Issue and Promises Fix in Upcoming Android 15 Update
Despite being present for years, scrolling issues continue to plague Google Pixel phones, including the latest Pixel 8 series. The company is addressing the issue with a fix in the upcoming Android 15 update, indicating that the problem is rooted in the software. However, it is concerning that it took the company several years to address the issue, especially considering the numerous comments on a year-old thread on the Issue Tracker from Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro users experiencing stuttering and lag. This issue affects both the system and third-party apps, leading to a subpar user experience.
Despite the ongoing issue being unresolved at this point, Google has addressed the situation on the thread by stating that they are actively working on a solution for the stuttering and scrolling problem on Pixel 8 and older models. This fix is expected to be included in the next Android release, which is likely to be Android 15 (according to Android Police).
Ongoing optimizations in performance and power are slated for the next Android release.
These include improvements positively impacting overall system UI jank as well as use cases tied to some Android applications.
The recent release of the second developer preview of Android 15 by Google suggests that the official launch of the update is still several months away. As seen in previous years, it is expected that the company will make Android 15 available to all compatible Pixel phones in October. Additionally, this is not the first time Google has acknowledged this issue, as they have previously issued updates to address scrolling problems. Therefore, while the company may claim to have resolved the issue, it is advised to approach this news with caution.
As previously stated, Google is continuously enhancing its Pixel-branded smartphones to effectively rival the popular Galaxy and iPhone models. While the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have impressive displays, there have been reports of stuttering and scrolling problems that may affect the user experience. Do you believe Google will address this issue once and for all on the Pixel 8 and previous versions this year?
