The latest Xbox Developer Direct, held on January 23, 2025, unveiled exciting new titles such as Ninja Gaiden 4 and previews for upcoming games like South of Midnight. Surprising many, the showcase also prominently featured the PlayStation logo in trailers for first-party titles that will be accessible on the PlayStation 5—a move that signifies a shift in Xbox’s promotional strategy.
Spencer’s vision of cross-platform transparency was further articulated during a guest appearance on the 250th episode of the Xbox Era Podcast, recorded shortly after the showcase and released on February 16. In response to questions about including competitor logos, he affirmed his desire for honesty with consumers.“I just want to be transparent with people, ”Spencer stated. He stressed that as Xbox expands its game availability to platforms like Nintendo Switch and Steam, the public should be fully informed about where these titles can be accessed.
