Peter Frampton Addresses Megadeth: Band Responds, Claims He Was “Misinformed”

Peter Frampton has partially attributed the cancellation of one of his shows to Megadeth, which prompted a prompt response from the band. Frampton’s concert on Tuesday, September 17, at Virginia Credit Union Live! was canceled due to “unforeseen circumstances.”Notably, just two days prior, on September 15, Megadeth’s performance at the same venue was also called off for “unexpected and unpredictable circumstances.”

During his gig in Philadelphia on September 17, Frampton suggested that Megadeth’s soundcheck might have allegedly caused structural damage to the stage. Frampton remarked:

“So, we had a show canceled the other day because of weather. And also Megadeth did a soundcheck, I think a couple of days before our show, and after they finished their soundcheck, there was structural damage to the stage. I’m not blaming them — it could have been another band — but it looks pretty like it. So, sorry, Megadeth. I had to rat on you.”

On September 23, Megadeth issued a statement to Blabbermouth, asserting that they never conducted a soundcheck. Frontman Dave Mustaine emphasized that Frampton was “misinformed”and indicated that the cancellation was “purely”a matter of safety.

“MEGADETH did not even get a chance to soundcheck at all in Richmond, Virginia”— The band addresses Peter Frampton’s remarks

The tension between Megadeth and Peter Frampton seemingly began with the cancellation of Megadeth’s September 15 show at Virginia Credit Union Live! in Richmond, Virginia. The band communicated to fans via a social media post:

“Due to unexpected and unpredictable circumstances, our show tonight, Sunday, Sept. 15, in Richmond, Virginia, has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.”

Two days later, on September 17, Peter Frampton also shared news of the cancellation of his performance at the same venue through a Facebook post. Interestingly, both cancellations were communicated in strikingly similar language. Frampton’s message stated:

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, our show tonight at Virginia Credit Union LIVE has been cancelled. We apologize for the inconvenience. Refunds will be available at point of purchase.”

While performing at The Met Philadelphia on September 17, Frampton discussed the cancellation of his Virginia concert. He told the audience that the show was called off due to weather, but he also hinted that Megadeth’s soundcheck might have resulted in “structural damage.”Frampton clarified that he was not holding Megadeth solely responsible and mentioned that any other band could have impacted the situation.

In response, Megadeth’s publicist at Schneider Rondan Organization provided a statement to Blabbermouth on September 23, aiming to correct what they deemed “misinformation”regarding Frampton’s comments. The statement clarified:

“MEGADETH did not even get a chance to soundcheck at all in Richmond, Virginia, contrary to what Peter Frampton reports. MEGADETH’s rigger was in the venue’s steel grid system above the stage preparing to hang the lights when he noticed damage to the venue’s grid.”

Upon discovering the damage, the rigger immediately brought it to the attention of the promoters and venue staff, which led to the decision that the stage was “unsafe”for the band or their equipment, due to the potential risk of “in-house grid failure”potentially resulting in serious injury or even death.

Dave Mustaine, founding member and frontman of Megadeth, did not shy away from the unfolding controversy, offering his perspective on Peter Frampton’s comments, even delivering a subtle jab at the English-American guitarist and singer. According to Blabbermouth, Mustaine stated:

“It seems Frampton was misinformed about our show being canceled. The decision was purely based on safety. It’s disappointing when someone you admire talks out their a*s about you.”

As of the time of writing, Peter Frampton has yet to respond to the statements made by Megadeth or Dave Mustaine.
