Persona 3 Portable will give you a total of 8 team members to fill out the rest of your party with. While there is an additional member of SEES, Fuuka acts as your navigator and won’t do any fighting herself. You can switch out party members in the starting area of Tartarus, allowing you to constantly mix and match your team for whatever fight is ahead.
As you progress through the story, you will constantly be gaining new members’ to SEES, each scaling at around the level the game thinks you should be close to by that part in the story. While you must always have the protagonist in your party, other members have plenty of options to take into the Dark Hour.
What Day Is Each Party Member Unlocked

Gaining new party members is tied to the story of Persona 3. Initially, you are only given three members, despite Akihiko and Mitsuru being members of SEES, just not able to fight on the front lines. For the most part, when a party member is gained, you’ll have access to them for the rest of the story, with a few exceptions for narrative reasons here and there. You can select your party before going into Tartarus or before a full moon operation, with your current composition not carrying over.
Persona 3 offers a wide cast of characters to choose from, each relatively well-rounded, making them all good choices. Persona 3 Portable also allows players to control party members directly, making them much more efficient and not prone to spam ineffective status effect attacks.
