PC Shipment Growth Slows in America as Asia-Pacific Region Achieves Double-Digit Sales Increase

Recent statistics from IDC indicate that the uncertainty stemming from U. S.import tariffs has led to a noticeable decline in PC shipments during the second and third quarters of 2025.

Lenovo Achieves Remarkable Growth in Q3 2025, Capturing Over 25% of Total PC Market Share; Japan’s Impact on PC Shipments in Asia-Pacific

The North American region experienced significant growth in PC shipments during the first quarter of 2025, reporting double-digit increases compared to Q3 and Q4 of 2024. This surge was interrupted by uncertainties driven by U. S.tariffs. As noted by IDC, the momentum in shipments came to a sudden halt, resulting in substantial declines in Q2 and Q3 2025, bringing the growth rates in line with figures from Q3 2024.

While the entire market is continuing on a very strong year, fueled by Windows 11 transition and the need to replace an aging installed base, the results by regions are telling different stories,

In particular, the North American market continues to be impacted by the US import tariffs shock and by macroeconomic uncertainties. While existent, the demand for newer PCs ready for Windows 11 is likely to push well into 2026.

In contrast, notable growth was reported in other regions, specifically Asia-Pacific (AP), Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and worldwide markets. The AP region has demonstrated a remarkable 14% year-over-year growth in PC shipments during Q2 and Q3 2025. Much of this increase can be attributed to significant shipment volumes from Japan and China, with Japan leading due to two primary factors. First, the impending end of support for Windows 10 prompted numerous Japanese entities—including businesses, educational institutions, and government agencies—to upgrade to newer Windows 11 systems.

Additionally, Japan’s GIGA Education Project, an initiative aimed at equipping every student with a personal device, has greatly contributed to the boosting of PC shipments across the region.

The demand was driven largely by Japan’s hardware refresh linked to Windows 10 end-of-support and the GIGA education project,

Growth outside Japan was more modest — hindered by macroeconomic and political challenges and slow Windows 11 adoption — though there were pockets of opportunity from hardware refreshes of devices purchased during and before the COVID-19 pandemic.
