PC Mod Bypasses God of War Ragnarök PlayStation Network Requirement

God of War Ragnarök has finally made its debut on PC, advancing the epic saga of Kratos and Atreus that originally graced PlayStation platforms. However, unlike the warm reception the original God of War received upon its PC launch, this Sony title faced a wave of negative reviews upon its release. Players quickly expressed their displeasure, highlighting that the single-player experience necessitates a PlayStation Network login.

In response to this requirement, a modder has stepped in to provide a solution. The NoPSSDK mod by iArtorias is now available on the Nexus Mods platform, and it effectively “removes the PlayStation PC SDK runtime requirement for God of War Ragnarök.”

To install this mod, players must place two. dll files into the game’s installation folder, tricking it into recognizing that it’s in offline mode. This allows PC gamers to bypass the account linking procedure and disables the PSN overlay.

The mod is gaining traction, with nearly 2,000 downloads reported at the time of writing, and almost 22,000 views according to Nexus Mods’ unique download tracking.

This scenario is not an isolated incident, as Sony has previously mandated a PlayStation Network account for PC gamers. A notable example includes the controversy surrounding Helldiver 2’s PSN requirement on Steam, which generated considerable discussion, especially since that game is exclusively multiplayer. In contrast, God of War Ragnarök has received backlash from players, given its nature as a fully single-player experience yet still enforcing the PSN account requirement.

Another title, Ghost of Tsushima, developed by Sony and Sucker Punch Productions, also enforces a PSN Network requirement, but it is only necessary for utilizing the Legends online multiplayer mode.

As we await potential updates from Sony regarding the implementation of the PlayStation Network requirement, mod creator iArtorias remains committed. They expressed, “I will try to maintain the tool even if something changes, but hopefully nothing crucial happens.”
