The Kansas City Chiefs Add Depth at Quarterback by Signing New Backup for Patrick Mahomes
Despite recent concerns surrounding Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes, there is positive news as the team has secured a new backup for him starting in 2024.
Despite Blaine Gabbert entering free agency this off-season, the Chiefs chose to pivot and search for a backup for Mahomes elsewhere. They ultimately reached an agreement with Carson Wentz, a former quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, Indianapolis Colts, and Los Angeles Rams. On Apr. 1, Wentz officially signed a one-year contract with the team.
Despite the presence of Chris Oladokun and Ian Book on the roster, Wentz’s experience may give him the opportunity to serve as the backup quarterback for the upcoming season. This will mark Wentz’s fifth consecutive year in this role.
Since taking on the role of the Chiefs’ full-time starter in 2018, Mahomes has only missed a total of four games in his career. As he sets his sights on a potential third consecutive Super Bowl victory, he will undoubtedly strive to continue his impressive track record with the team.
In your opinion, is Carson Wentz a superior backup choice compared to Blaine Gabbert?
