Patricia Richardson’s character in ‘Home Improvement’ explored as actress says a reboot would be “very weird”

During a recent episode of the Back to the Best podcast, which was released on Thursday, March 28, Patricia Richardson discussed the potential revival of the comedy series, Home Improvement. Richardson had previously co-starred with Tim Allen on the show during the 1990s.

The actress expressed that it was “strange”to hear that her former co-star was discussing reviving the program.

Richardson reiterated that she had no intention of bringing back the 90s sitcom.

“It was so weird… I would hear [Tim] was coming out publicly and saying this stuff about how everyone was on board to do a ‘Home Improvement’ reunion. But he never asked me, and he never asked Jonathan [Taylor Thomas]. Who I talk to,”she said.

Patricia Richardson gained widespread recognition for her role as Jillian Taylor, the wife of Allen, in the long-running television series Home Improvement.

The Iconic Role of Jill Taylor: Patricia Richardson’s Impact on Television

Portraying Jillian “Jill”Taylor on the ABC sitcom Home Improvement, Patricia Richardson rose to fame. Her performance earned her multiple nominations and ultimately, she took home the Primetime Emmy Award.

Three months after delivering twins in 1991, Richardson was unexpectedly brought in to take over the role of Jill Taylor in the sitcom, replacing Frances Fisher.

Tim’s wife, Jillian, played a crucial role in helping Tim raise their three sons, Brad, Randy, and Mark.

It was disclosed during the show that Jillian, along with her sisters, had an unstable upbringing due to their father’s military service. In the films Taylor and Her Sisters and Taps, Jill and her on-screen siblings can be seen together.

From the beginning of the show, it is evident that Jill plays the role of the logical voice for her husband and children. In addition to her practicality, Jillian is also highly in tune with her emotions. Ballet and opera are two intricate art forms that Jill particularly enjoys.

Jill’s demanding and dictatorial behavior has been a recurring theme throughout the series, often leading to conflicts with Tim. However, there are moments when she acknowledges her flaws and apologizes to Tim, although he also tends to apologize due to his narrow-mindedness.

Furthermore, she is characterized as wise, graceful, affectionate, empathetic, reliable, accountable, independent, nurturing, humble, relaxed, optimistic, cheerful, sensible, intuitive, courageous, considerate, compassionate, amiable, insightful, and just.

When Jill is upset, she may exhibit moments of extreme aggression and intimidation. In fact, she was able to give Tim a black eye and render him unconscious with just one powerful punch to the face.

Despite Tim Allen’s claims, Patricia Richardson, the actress who played his on-screen wife and the star of the show, has stated that she has no intention of reprising her role in Home Improvement.

In a recent interview with the Back to the Best podcast, Patricia Richardson explicitly stated that she has no interest in reviving the 90s sitcom. She reiterated this sentiment by saying:

“So I called Jonathan one day and said, ‘Has he asked you about this? And he went, ‘No.’ And “Why’s he going around telling everybody that we’re all on board when he hasn’t talked to you or me?’”

Additionally, she portrayed various roles on popular television series such as NCIS, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Last Man Standing, Blindspot, The West Wing, and Strong Medicine, in addition to her role on Home Improvement.
