Grinding Gear Games originally announced Path of Exile 2, the highly anticipated sequel to its popular fantasy action RPG, in 2019. However, it wasn’t until 2023 that fans were treated to the first in-game footage of the game. Despite this exciting update, it was also revealed that the closed beta test for Path of Exile 2 would not begin until June 7, 2024.
Regrettably, the numerous Path of Exile players who had been anticipating that date have received unfortunate news. Grinding Gear Games has stated on the game’s X (formerly Twitter) account that the closed beta for Path of Exile 2 has been delayed until a later date in 2024. The developer did not provide a specific date for the start of the closed beta, but they did mention that it would likely be towards the end of the year.

The developer mentioned in the message that although the content for the closed beta test was expected to be completed by the previous target date of June 7, the team realized they had “underestimated the amount of time needed to perfect the gameplay to our satisfaction.”The message also revealed that alpha testing for Path of Exile 2 is set to commence in June 2024.

Initially, the intention was for Path of Exile 2 to take the place of the existing Path of Exile game. However, in July 2023, the developers announced that Path of Exile 2 will be a distinct game from the original. Upon its release, both games will coexist, with their own unique content and expansions.
Path of Exile 2 will feature a six-act campaign with a total of 100 unique environments, 600 varied monsters, and 100 powerful boss creatures. Additionally, it is set to introduce a new skill gem system, along with six additional character classes (Sorceress, Monk, Huntress, Mercenary, Warrior, and Druid), in addition to the original six classes from the first installment.
