The Controlled Metamorphosis Diamond is a standout jewel in Path of Exile 2. It provides a crucial enhancement for specific endgame builds that depend on the optimal allocation of passive skill tree points to boost damage potential significantly.
This unique item can only be acquired by vanquishing one of the game’s most formidable pinnacle bosses, a feat that is achievable by a select few players who possess endgame-ready characters with a focus on Magic Find (MF) strategies. Below is a comprehensive guide on how to obtain this valuable jewel.
Acquiring the Controlled Metamorphosis Diamond in PoE 2

The Controlled Metamorphosis Diamond drops exclusively from Xesht, We That Are One, the pinnacle Breach boss at Difficulty 4.
Locating Xesht, We That Are One
Xesht can be confronted by utilizing a Breachstone at the Realmgate located in the Atlas. Players can craft Breachstones by merging 300 Breach Splinters, which are gathered from various Breach nodes.
Unlocking Xesht, We That Are One at Difficulty 4
Upon defeating Xesht at the base difficulty with a Breachstone, players will earn two Breach Atlas points. Accumulating two points allows players to unlock +1 difficulty in the Breach Atlas. Therefore, players need to take down Xesht four times at progressively higher difficulties to reach Difficulty 4.
It is crucial to note that only the player who owns the Breachstone will receive Breach Atlas points when Xesht is defeated; other party members will not benefit from this reward.
Functionality of the Controlled Metamorphosis Diamond in PoE 2

When inserted into a jewel socket, the Controlled Metamorphosis generates two concentric rings around it. The radius of these rings can vary across eight distinct values:
- Very Small
- Small
- Medium-Small
- Medium
- Medium-Large
- Large
- Very Large
- Massive
These rings allow players to allocate passive skill points to nodes located within the confines of the two rings without needing to connect them through the skill tree. Unlike Time-Lost Jewels, however, the Controlled Metamorphosis restricts point allocation to nodes situated in the perimeter of the rings.
The jewel also comes with two debuff modifiers as follows:
- (-20)-(-5)% to all Elemental Resistances
- (-23)-(-3)% to Chaos Resistance
For optimal performance, a perfectly rolled Controlled Metamorphosis will exhibit -5% to all Elemental Resistances and -3% to Chaos Resistance.
Players utilizing the Keystone Chaos Inoculation are immune to all Chaos damage, making the negative Chaos Resistance effect of Controlled Metamorphosis inconsequential for such builds.
Interestingly, the radius size does not directly correlate to desirability—having a smaller radius can be just as effective if the desired passive nodes are closer to the jewel socket. Ultimately, the ideal Controlled Metamorphosis variant depends on individual builds, the positioning of the jewel socket in the passive skill tree, and the surrounding beneficial nodes.
From a trading perspective, larger radius jewels command higher value, rendering Controlled Metamorphosis Diamonds with massive radii the most coveted and expensive on trading platforms.
