In Path of Exile 2, selecting an Ascendancy Class is crucial for character development. These significant upgrades provide access to powerful passive skills that can elevate your gameplay experience. Understanding how to ascend in Path of Exile 2 is essential knowledge for all aspiring players.
This guide will outline the process of ascending in the game, as well as strategies for navigating your Ascendancy tree effectively.
Steps to Ascend in Path of Exile 2
Your journey to ascend begins in Act 2, specifically in the Traitor’s Passage zone. Here, you’ll need to navigate the cave structure until you reach a staircase leading to the second floor, identifiable by a large statue placed prominently along the way.
Upon reaching the upper level, you will encounter two pathways: one that leads deeper into the game and another that culminates at a sealed door. Your objective is to approach this sealed door.
Once you click to open the door—no additional requirements are needed—you will face an optional boss. Defeating this boss rewards you with a coin as well as other valuable items, which will start a quest back at the caravan.
Return to the caravan and converse with the marked NPCs to access the Trail of the Sehkemas. Here, you can exchange your coin for an initial attempt at this rogue-like challenge, which tasks you with navigating through a series of rooms before confronting a boss. Don’t worry if you find this too challenging; you can always return for another attempt once your gear is upgraded. A significant advantage of the quest coin is that it remains with you even after death in the trail, allowing for repeated attempts without loss.
Upon defeating the boss, you will enter a reward room where you can use keys collected during the trail to open chests containing loot. Importantly, this room also houses an Altar of Ascendancy, where you can formally ascend your character.
Additionally, there’s a second challenge known as Trail of Chaos located in Act 3, which can be accessed by defeating another optional boss in the Chimeral Wetlands. Completing this trial for the first time mirrors the experience of the Trail of the Sehkemas and grants access to another opportunity for ascension.
Leveling Up Your Ascendancy Class in Path of Exile 2
After unlocking your ascendancy class, the next step is to acquire additional passive points. The most straightforward method to gain these points is by successfully completing the trials in both Act 2 and Act 3 at their base difficulty level.
As a note, higher difficulty levels for the trials can be unlocked through gameplay. By conquering the Trail of the Sehkemas or the Trail of Chaos on these increased difficulties, you’ll earn additional Ascendancy points.
It’s important to remember that you can earn a maximum of eight Ascendancy points per character. Additionally, players should be aware that there is currently no option to change your chosen Ascendancy class—each base class includes two unique options—so choose wisely!
