Square Enix Releases Updates for Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series
On March 5, 2025, Square Enix launched updates for all six titles in the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series, which are available on Steam. This update primarily addresses minor bug fixes and resolves known issues across the games. Notably, Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy VI received more substantial alterations.[Thanks, Wario64!]
Core Issues Addressed Across All Titles
One significant universal fix applies to all games within this collection: the mini-map on/off setting, which had previously malfunctioned, is now functioning correctly. Additionally, players can expect enhancements to the overall user interface and control schemes across the board. A multitude of potential progression issues, which could arise due to specific inputs, gameplay circumstances, or even achievement tracking, have also been resolved. Of note, the original Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II saw the least amount of changes compared to their peers.
Significant Updates in Individual Titles
Among the enhanced titles, Final Fantasy IV ensured that players maintain the ‘Float’ status in dungeons while traversing between areas. In Final Fantasy V, players can now clearly identify which weapons can be enchanted or wielded with two hands. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy III introduced the ability to boost Job Levels, improving gameplay dynamics.
Enhancements in Final Fantasy VI
If we take a closer look at Final Fantasy VI, it experienced some of the most extensive updates. One of the notable modifications includes a revamped experience points system. This ensures that characters who rejoin the party after storyline absences level up appropriately to match their current teammates. Furthermore, the event that occurs between Celes and Cid has been modified for improved narrative consistency. A major fix was also implemented to correct equipment effects that were not being displayed when a character was incapacitated.
Availability of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series
The entire collection of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster titles is accessible on multiple platforms, including PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices. Physical versions are additionally available for the Nintendo Switch and PS4.
