Heartfelt Tribute: J.Y. Park Announces the Passing of His Father

K-pop luminary J.Y. Park, widely recognized as the founder of JYP Entertainment, has shared the sad news of his father’s passing. This announcement came on January 20 via a heartfelt Instagram tribute, where he expressed his deep sorrow and remembrance.

In his touching message, Park disclosed that his father had died in a hospital just a mere 10 minutes away from where he was filming. Despite his rigorous travel schedule, which often took him around the globe, Park felt grateful to have the opportunity to see his father both before and after his death.

Recollection of Struggles and Farewell

In his tribute, the “When We Disco”singer revealed the difficult circumstances surrounding his father’s health. He shared that his father had been struggling with dementia for an extended period and had been largely unresponsive for the year leading up to his passing. “My family had been preparing our hearts for this moment, but the reality of losing him felt as if my heart had sunk to the floor,”Park explained in his post.

Although his heart is heavy with grief, Park maintains his faith as a Christian, placing his hope in the promise of an afterlife where he looks forward to reuniting with his father one day.

A Fond Farewell

Park recounted, “He was not just my dad but also my best friend. I called him ‘dad’ instead of ‘appa’ until the end, and I know he believed in me through every endeavor.”In his closing remarks, he expressed profound gratitude, stating, “It is all because of my dad that I am who I am today. Thank you for everything, Dad. You were truly the best, and I look forward to the day we can talk again.”

He also shared plans for a private funeral, emphasizing that the service would be reserved solely for family. He kindly invited those wishing to join in spirit to do so with their hearts, reflecting the shared respect and condolences from the larger community.
