Park Hyung Sik Reflects on Traumatic Trainee Days
In a candid disclosure, South Korean actor and singer Park Hyung Sik recounted the difficulties he endured during his initial days as a trainee, highlighting experiences of bullying and social isolation from his peers.
A Challenging Start in the Entertainment Industry
During a recent episode of “You Quiz on the Block, ”the former member of ZE:A shared that his unconventional entry into the training program may have contributed to his struggles. Unlike his fellow trainees, who gained acceptance through traditional auditions, Park stepped into the spotlight after being offered a casting deal.
“Before I joined ZE:A, I briefly trained at another agency after being recruited for a band competition. The trainees who earned their spots via auditions likely viewed me as an outsider or a ‘parachute, ’ leading to their reluctance to engage with me, ” he explained.“Ultimately, it all boiled down to demonstrating my talent, which is why I adapted to practicing in solitude, ” he stated.
Overcoming Isolation and Finding Community
This revelation is not new for Park, who previously discussed his experience with bullying on SBS’s “Healing Camp.”He explained how the other trainees frequently ignored him and refused to share meals, pushing him into a state of depression.
However, things shifted for Park when he transitioned to Star Empire Entertainment and joined ZE:A. The camaraderie and support he found within the group played a pivotal role in his recovery from isolation. He reminisced about how his bandmates encouraged him to join them for meals, helping him emerge from his self-imposed isolation.
A Growing Career in Acting
After three years of rigorous training, Park debuted with ZE:A in 2010. He made a cameo appearance in the 2013 drama “Sirius, ”but it was his role as Jo Myung Soo in “The Heirs”the same year that marked his foray into acting. His significant breakthrough came in 2017, with his captivating performance as Ahn Min Hyuk in the hit series “Strong Girl Bong-soon.”
