Pocketpair is currently facing challenges due to a lawsuit from Nintendo regarding its popular game “Pokémon with Guns,”Palworld. Despite these legal issues, the studio is actively exploring opportunities in a new platform space for the Palworld universe: mobile devices.
In a press release translated from Korean via Google, the Japanese developer Pocketpair, in collaboration with South Korean publisher Krafton, announced that the Palworld intellectual property will be launched on mobile platforms.
The agreement states that the team from PUBG Studios, the creators of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, will be responsible for developing this mobile version. Krafton’s announcement emphasizes that they “plan to faithfully reinterpret and implement the main fun elements of the original game for the mobile environment.”
For those who may not be familiar with Krafton, as previously noted, it is the publisher behind the massive battle royale sensation PUBG. Additionally, Krafton is developing InZOI, a highly anticipated life simulation title expected to compete with EA’s dominant franchise, The Sims. Recently, Krafton also acquired Xbox’s Tango Gameworks, a studio which was shut down by Microsoft as part of its cost-cutting strategies. Tango Gameworks is renowned for titles such as Ghostwire: Tokyo, the Evil Within series, and Hi-Fi Rush.
It remains uncertain whether this will simply be a direct port of the immensely popular open-world survival game for Android and iOS devices. PUBG Studios may opt to introduce this project as a spin-off, offering a fresh perspective on the capturing gameplay and the Pals concept, particularly with Nintendo closely monitoring the original developer.
Palworld also made a surprise launch on PlayStation 5 late last month, finally extending the experience that was previously available only to Xbox and PC gamers to Sony’s platform.
