Palworld Launches on PlayStation 5 – Now Available for Players

After much speculation, developer PocketPair officially confirmed during Sony’s State of Play event that Palworld is launching on the PlayStation 5 today. This exciting announcement has been eagerly awaited by fans.

The launch trailer for the PS5 version of Palworld, often referred to as “Pokemon with guns”, showcases stunning visuals and offers PS5 players a sneak peek into the gameplay and experience they can expect.

In July, prior to today’s reveal, Sony Music and PocketPair announced their collaboration to create Palworld Entertainment. This new venture is set to expand the Palworld franchise beyond just video games and PC platforms, with plans to include merchandise such as toys.

Palworld emerged as a surprise success on both Xbox and PC platforms, achieving remarkable sales numbers since its release in January 2024. A month post-launch, PocketPair reported that approximately 25 million players have engaged with the game—15 million on Steam and 10 million on Xbox. With the recent addition of PlayStation players, this number is expected to rise significantly.

PocketPair recently assured fans that it has no intentions of transforming Palworld into a free-to-play model or a live service game but is considering the introduction of in-game skins or DLC packs.

However, the studio is currently facing legal challenges. Just last week, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company filed a lawsuit against PocketPair, alleging that Palworld “infringes multiple patent rights.”Specific details regarding these patents have yet to be disclosed.

In response to the lawsuit, PocketPair issued a statement confirming that the development team was aware of the legal proceedings initiated by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. The studio emphasized that it would initiate “the appropriate legal proceedings and investigations”concerning the claims made in the lawsuit.
