Painkiller Remake Set to Launch on October 9
Saber Interactive, in collaboration with Anshar Studios, has officially announced the release date for the eagerly anticipated Painkiller remake. This modern reimagining of the iconic 2004 first-person shooter developed by People Can Fly will become available on October 9 across PC via Steam, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X platforms.
Pre-Order Details and Editions
Pre-orders are currently open on all major storefronts. Gamers can purchase the Standard Edition of Painkiller for $39.99, which includes the “Iron Crusade” skin pack. This pack features unique skins for all four playable characters—Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch—along with skins for six weapons: the Electrodriver, Stakegun, Shotgun, SMG, Hand Cannon, and Rocket Launcher. Console pre-orders of the Standard Edition also offer the exclusive “Burnished Pride” weapon pack, providing additional golden skins for the previously mentioned weapons.
For those willing to invest a bit more, the Deluxe Edition is available for $49.99. This edition encompasses the “Iron Crusade” skin pack and includes three post-launch DLCs, each featuring six new weapon skins and four character skins.
Gameplay Mechanics and Features
The narrative of the remake mirrors the original Painkiller, where players assume the role of a character sent to Purgatory following their transgressions against Heaven. In a twist of fate, the Voice of the Creator offers the protagonist a final opportunity for redemption by battling through waves of demons in a high-octane combat experience. Players will navigate through horrific and gothic environments to thwart Azazel, a fallen angel, from invading Earth, all while striving for salvation. Notably, this version introduces an online co-op mode, allowing two additional players to join the fray, expanding beyond the original’s single-player focus.
Enhanced Movement and Character Progression
Players can expect a dynamic traversal system that includes jumping, grappling hooks, and dashes to navigate expansive landscapes. As they progress through the game, they will encounter a variety of grotesque foes, including legions of demons and colossal nightmares, such as Azazel’s monstrous progeny, the Nephilim. Character progression is further enriched by the unique integration of tarot cards, allowing gamers to enhance their abilities. Each character exhibits distinct perks that improve energy, health, power, and damage outputs.
