Packers Super Bowl WR sounds off at Marvin Harrison Jr. for skipping pro day: “Show a little competitive nature”
Marvin Harrison Jr. decided not to participate in his Pro Day, which was met with disapproval from James Jones, a former wide receiver for the Super Bowl-winning Packers. During an interview with Colin Cowherd, Jones expressed his thoughts on the matter, stating,
“I don’t like this at all. I truly don’t.”
Jones, while acknowledging the talent of the NFL Draft prospect, made it clear that he did not believe the prospect’s talent was superior to that of a Hall-of-Famer like Calvin Johnson. Using Johnson as an example, the former Packers wideout argued that even Johnson attended his Pro Day. Jones concluded by saying,
“And it’s been a lot of dudes like that. Calvin Johnson was like that. And if we really keep it a 100, Calvin Johnson was better than you (Marvin Harrison Jr.) in college. Calvin Johnson had a pro day. You know, it’s a lot of dudes that have your talent, if not better talent that still did the Pro Day to show the scouts that what y’all see on film, that ain’t nothing. Watch when y’all see me out here at my pro day.”
James Jones praises Marvin Harrison Jr.’s talent, but raises concerns about his competitive drive
James Jones expressed his opinion that Marvin Harrison Jr.’s choice to not attend his Pro Day and rely solely on the scouts’ evaluations from game footage exhibited a notable lack of competitiveness. The former wide receiver also stated that he was not bothered by Harrison Jr.’s absence from the Combines, remarking,
“And I’m cool that you’re not working out at the Combine. But for me, where’s the competitive nature? You probably gonna be the first receiver off the board, but show us that you got a little competitive nature.”
Marvin Harrison Jr. is aware of his high rating and there was previous speculation that he could be selected as the first overall pick before the Chicago Bears traded for Justin Fields and showed interest in drafting a quarterback. Although some drafts have placed Malik Nabers ahead of him, he is confident that he will still be among the top players chosen. In fact, he may even consider it a positive if he falls slightly in the draft to join a stronger team.
Despite all these factors, including the potential for injury on Pro Day and his knowledge of his draft value, he may have been reluctant to participate again. However, James Jones remains unconvinced and is not buying any of these excuses.
