Owlcat Games Unveils New cRPG: Warhammer 40K: Dark Heresy
During the much-anticipated Warhammer Skulls 2025 livestream, Owlcat Games revealed its exciting new cRPG title, Warhammer 40K: Dark Heresy. Unlike its predecessor, Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader, this game shifts its focus towards the intricate world of the Inquisition.
Step into the Role of an Inquisitor
Players will assume the role of an Inquisition acolyte, tasked with investigating heretical activities, leading a diverse warband, and shaping the future of the Calixis Sector. Dark Heresy promises a richly woven narrative experience where player choices will significantly impact the storyline, delving deep into the complexities of the Inquisition, its power struggles, bureaucratic challenges, and internal conflicts.
Your Mission: Defend the Imperium
As an Inquisitor, the primary objective is to shield the Imperium from a multitude of threats, including Xenos incursions, heretical betrayals, and mutant scourges—no matter the cost. Players will face the enigmatic challenges surrounding the Tyrant Star and confront the terrifying horrors of the Noctis Aeterna.
Companions Enhance Gameplay Experience
True to Owlcat’s tradition, Warhammer 40K: Dark Heresy will include a variety of companions, each bringing unique skills and backgrounds to the fold. Players can recruit loyal Imperial allies, such as a battle-hardened Guardsman from the death world of Catachan, or even dubious Xenos characters like a Kroot mercenary. This diverse cast will offer distinct gameplay experiences and perspectives, complete with fully voiced dialogues that enrich the narrative.
While a specific release date is yet to be announced, players can already wishlist the game on Steam.
Rogue Trader Expansions Unveiled
In the same livestream event, Owlcat also disclosed the upcoming expansion for Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader, titled Lex Imperialis. This significant expansion will introduce players to a new 15-hour storyline featuring the Adeptus Arbites, a faction known for their unwavering enforcement of Imperial law, alongside a formidable new companion, the relentless Solomorne Antha. Lex Imperialis is scheduled for release on all platforms on June 24.
New Content on the Horizon for Rogue Trader
Additionally, Owlcat announced the launch of a second Season Pass for Rogue Trader, set to include two new expansions. One of these expansions will invite players into a Necron vault curated by the iconic Trazyn the Infinite, where they’ll battle against ancient guardians to unearth relics tied to the Von Valancius legacy. The fourth DLC will allow players to delve into the surreal Processional of the Damned—a voidship graveyard steeped in mystery and madness. As with previous content, these expansions will introduce fresh companion characters, intertwined quests, and new mechanics, collectively offering around 15 hours of engaging gameplay.
In celebration of these announcements, the base game is currently available at a discount across all platforms.
