Renowned Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier reveals in his latest book, Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, that a mobile version of Overwatch is currently being developed by Blizzard Entertainment. This announcement has generated considerable excitement among fans, as the launch of a mobile adaptation of Overwatch could introduce innovative Hero shooters into the competitive landscape of mobile gaming.
Let’s dive deeper into what the Overwatch mobile project might entail.
Will Blizzard Entertainment Launch Overwatch Mobile?
It appears that Overwatch is on the brink of being available on mobile platforms. Jason Schreier reports that Walter Kong, the former lead of the Overwatch 2 team who was responsible for consistently delivering content to the game, has now taken on the role of General Manager for Overwatch mobile.
Schreier states in his book:
“Overwatch was guided by Walter Kong, who managed the release of new heroes and content for Overwatch 2, alongside fresh ventures like a mobile version of the franchise.”
The potential release of an Overwatch mobile game is promising news for gamers eager to engage with their favorite hero-shooter on mobile devices. Although an official launch date has yet to be announced, speculations suggest that it may not be available on the Apple App Store or the Android Play Store until after 2025.
It remains unclear whether this upcoming mobile iteration will be a brand new version of the beloved game or simply a port of the existing Overwatch 2. Other successful adaptations, such as COD Mobile, Warzone Mobile, and PUBG Mobile, have thrived in the mobile gaming market, making it likely that Overwatch could experience a similar level of enthusiasm.
Expect to see the classic Heroes featured in this mobile game, with at least 12 original characters available at launch. Given the expansion of the roster over time, it is anticipated that the game could roll out with an even more extensive selection of playable characters.
