- A second wave of Overwatch Classic is anticipated to last around two to three weeks, with a potential third wave introducing additional post-launch heroes.
Fans of the iconic hero shooter Overwatch will be delighted to learn that Overwatch Classic is making a comeback in Overwatch 2. This revival will incorporate earlier post-launch heroes, notably the DPS version of Doomfist. The first iteration of Overwatch Classic ran from late November to early December, providing players with a nostalgic experience reminiscent of the original game’s launch state. The mode featured 6v6 gameplay with a limited selection of the original 21 heroes, and all character abilities were reverted to their launch configurations.
Doomfist was first introduced in summer 2017 as a unique DPS hero, known for his exceptional mobility and a distinctive moveset. However, changes came with Overwatch 2’s release in 2022 when Doomfist transitioned to the tank role, following a similar change made for Symmetra in 2018. In this new role, Doomfist’s gameplay was altered significantly; he gained a larger frame and lost his signature Rising Uppercut, which was swapped for a Power Block mechanic enhancing his Rocket Punch.
As anticipation builds for Overwatch Classic’s next installment, Blizzard plans to bring back Doomfist along with key heroes from the original game, including Ana, Sombra, and Orisa. This fresh phase will allow players to relive the exhilarating “Mercy Moth”meta and will officially launch on February 4.

With Overwatch Classic’s return, fans can again utilize Doomfist’s Rising Uppercut ability, which was lost following his role transition. Players will also get the chance to experience Orisa’s formidable bunker shield, notorious for creating challenges for opposing teams, especially when combined with heroes like Bastion or Torbjorn’s turret. Expect this new phase of Overwatch Classic to span roughly two to three weeks, similar to the previous run. Furthermore, Blizzard is likely strategizing for a third installment of the mode, which may expand the roster to include heroes such as Moira, Brigitte, Wrecking Ball, and Ashe.

Currently, Overwatch 2 is in the midst of its 14th season, which introduced the latest Tank hero, Hazard. Season 15 is projected to commence in mid-to-late February, bringing new battle pass themes and likely debuting new maps and modes. While no new heroes will be added during this upcoming season, it may well serve as the backdrop for the highly anticipated third wave of Overwatch Classic, leaving fans eager for what’s next.
