Exciting Developments for Overwatch 2: Season 17 Launches Soon
Blizzard Entertainment has revealed that Season 17 of Overwatch 2 is scheduled to commence next Tuesday, bringing a host of new features and enhancements to the popular free-to-play hero shooter. Here’s what players can anticipate as they dive into the latest season.
Stadium Mode Takes Center Stage
The popularity of Stadium mode among players has prompted the developers to dedicate significant updates to this feature. This season will see the inclusion of three characters—Zenyatta, Sigma, and Junkrat—available for play in Stadium. In addition, two new maps, Esperança and Samoa, are being introduced. To enhance strategic gameplay, players will now enjoy improved build tools along with the introduction of Stadium Forge, a system that enables users to create, save, and share their team compositions. Users can experiment with game strategies, including pre-defined loadouts for each hero tailored for early and late-game scenarios.
Fresh Starts and Game Modes
Season 17 marks a pivotal moment with the inaugural rank reset for Stadium, giving players an opportunity to showcase their skills anew. Incentives for participation include Drives that reward consistent stellar performance, along with Custom Games that empower players to develop personalized rulesets. Furthermore, fresh All-Star rewards are on offer, encouraging players to engage with Stadium mode.

Map Voting and Player Experience Enhancements
In a significant addition, Blizzard is implementing map voting in both Quick Play and Competitive modes. Following the role queue lock, players will be presented with three randomly selected map options. Each vote increases the likelihood of that map’s selection, with the final decision made through a roulette-style mechanism. To alleviate any pressure, team chat and individual votes will be concealed, and leaver penalties will activate as soon as voting commences.
New Maps to Explore
Players can look forward to exploring a trio of exciting new maps. In the Core mode, Aatlis introduces a stunning Flashpoint setting that celebrates Moroccan culture, complete with vibrant gardens and luxurious resorts designed for intense skirmishes. Meanwhile, the Esperança map—reimagined for Stadium mode—will feature new elevation dynamics, allowing for tactical flexibilities during rounds. Lastly, the volcanic Samoa control point offers a blend of molten hazards and thrilling gameplay, characterized by open arenas and vertical combat opportunities.
Introducing Mythics and Upcoming Events
For the first time in Overwatch 2, Blizzard is rolling out two Mythic skins on day one. Players can look forward to D. Va’s Mythic Horang Hero Skin and Reaper’s Mythic Steel Death Weapon Skin, each offering four tiers of evolution to customize gameplay further.
Additionally, a limited-time event called Hacks & Hijinks will be available within a month, featuring a distinctive 6v6 mode where match mechanics shift every round. Players will face dynamic challenges like altered gravity and health pack pursuits that charge Ultimates, enhancing the gameplay experience. This special event will run on Control maps from July 15 to 28.
Stay tuned for all the thrilling updates coming to Overwatch 2 this season!
