Overwatch 2 Introduces Major Updates to Loot Box Drop Rates

Overview of Recent Changes in Overwatch 2

  • All Epic Souvenirs in Overwatch 2 have been modified to Rare quality, enhancing Loot Box rewards.
  • Season 15 has reinstated the beloved Loot Boxes feature, alongside other gameplay modifications.
  • Players express satisfaction with the Souvenir adjustments, allowing for easier acquisition without competing against high-rarity items.

A recent hotfix for Overwatch 2 has transformed all Epic Souvenirs into Rare quality items. This change ensures that these cosmetics will no longer occupy the coveted slots in Loot Boxes reserved for guaranteed high-rarity items. As a result, players can expect to see a variety of exciting rewards, such as skins, victory poses, emotes, weapon charms, and highlight intros, every time they receive an Epic reward from Loot Boxes.

Season 15 has ushered in significant updates for Overwatch 2, notably the introduction of the Perks leveling system which alters gameplay mechanics. Among the most anticipated features of this season was the return of the Loot Boxes—among the most popular reward systems in the game’s history, previously eliminated at the conclusion of the original Overwatch.

Just a week after Loot Boxes made their comeback, a hotfix on February 25 modified all Souvenirs to Rare quality, including the comically famous Epic Winton Souvenir from Overwatch 2. This update, while not explicitly mentioned in the patch notes, aims to ensure that Souvenirs no longer appear as Epic supplies. Consequently, only skins, victory poses, emotes, weapon charms, and highlight intros will be available at this rarity tier.

Souvenirs were introduced as emote-like cosmetics at the launch of Overwatch 2, featuring a distinctive reveal animation for each hero. There are over 100 unique Souvenirs available, allowing any hero to showcase them, but players are limited to equipping a total of four emotes or Souvenirs at once due to shared slots.

The community has reacted positively to the adjustment in Souvenir quality. Previously, Souvenirs struggled for popularity, primarily due to inconsistent animations among heroes and their competition with emotes for limited inventory space. With all Souvenirs classified as Rare, fans can now acquire them more effortlessly, ensuring that they won’t be disappointed by receiving a Souvenir when hoping for more enticing items such as skins.

Players currently have numerous opportunities to collect additional Loot Boxes. During Season 15, Overwatch 2 has confirmed that more than 100 Loot Boxes will be obtainable through various in-game challenges, Discord events, and other initiatives. As players continue to open their Loot Boxes, they will gain clearer insights into the Epic items that await them.
