Over 10 Years Later, The Sims 4 Brings Back Classic Burglar from Previous Games

Exciting New Update: The Return of the Burglar in The Sims 4

Since its launch in 2014, The Sims 4 has undergone numerous updates and expansions. However, one cherished character that has long been absent from the game is the infamous burglar. This character, who has entertained and challenged players in The Sims, The Sims 2, and The Sims 3, is making a much-anticipated comeback as the franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary.

New Features with the Burglar Update

Today’s announcement coincides with the release of the latest expansion, Businesses and Hobbies, and includes a complimentary update to the base game, allowing even players without expansions to experience the thrill of a home invasion.

Meet Robin Banks: The Newest Menace

The burglar, now playfully named Robin Banks, is set to make night-time visits to players’ residential and business properties, attempting to steal valuable items under the cover of darkness. Players have several options to counter this new threat: they can call the police directly through their sim or utilize the new Burglar Alarm, which is designed to alert the authorities swiftly. Moreover, crafty players can upgrade their alarms through the Handy skill, enabling functionalities such as zapping the burglar and minimizing the likelihood of break-ins.

Defending Your Property

If calling for help feels too passive, players may opt for a more hands-on approach by attempting to confront the burglar directly. Given the risk involved in such encounters, having a stronger sim character for the fight may prove advantageous, as highlighted in the official feature announcement trailer.

Exclusive Features for DLC Pack Owners

Players who own expansion packs will be thrilled to discover unique interactions that allow different character types to deal with the burglar more effectively:

  • Dogs: They will chase the burglar away.(Requires: The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack)
  • Werewolves: Intimidate the burglar into leaving.(Requires: The Sims 4 Werewolves Game Pack)
  • Spellcasters: Cast anything from confusion spells to full transformations.(Requires: The Sims 4 Realm of Magic Game Pack)
  • Servos: Use their defense matrix to zap the burglar.(Requires: The Sims 4 Discover University Expansion Pack)
  • Scientists: Deploy the Freeze Ray to immobilize the intruder.(Requires: The Sims 4 Get to Work Expansion Pack)

Enhancing Gameplay with Unique Interactions

According to Maxis, the developers behind The Sims series, this update introduces over 50 distinct reactions across the base game along with 37 player-directed interactions. As stated in the official announcement blog, “Who knew a bit of thievery could add so much character to your game? We are so thrilled to finally bring the burglar back into The Sims universe!”
