People Can Fly recently announced the cancellation of Outriders 2, one of two significant projects shelved this year, shedding light on the complexities of game development.

The project, codenamed Gemini, was in its nascent stages with development far from completion. Notably, evidence from screenshots and video footage shared with Insider Gaming indicates that the game was still in the motion capture phase as of early this year.
Reasons Behind the Cancellation
Last month, Sebastian Wojciechowski, the CEO of People Can Fly, confirmed the cancellation of both Outriders 2 and another project dubbed Project Bifrost. The cancellation stemmed from issues surrounding Square Enix, the game’s publisher, which failed to deliver a draft for the additional content rider in the Publishing Agreement that outlines the essential terms and conditions for progressing through various development milestones. This lack of communication ultimately contributed to suspending the game’s development.
Looking Ahead: Future Projects from People Can Fly
Despite the setback with Outriders 2, People Can Fly remains active in the gaming industry. The studio is currently working on Gears of War: E-Day for Microsoft along with another unannounced title based on a well-known Sony intellectual property. These projects indicate that while some efforts may have been halted, the studio’s creative teams continue to innovate and explore new opportunities.
