This article contains spoilers for aspects of the Invincible comics as well as the first three episodes of Season 3, currently available on Prime Video.
Invincible enters its third season with significant shifts in the team dynamics of the Guardians of the Globe. This elite group is recognized as a formidable defense against diverse threats within the superhero realm. The dramatic demise of numerous members in Season 3’s premiere episode underscored the intense dangers faced by Mark Grayson and his allies. In the aftermath, Mark’s teenage friends stepped up as the new Guardians, putting their lives on the line over two action-packed seasons.
However, the narrative takes a pivotal turn in Season 3 as the team learns about Cecil Stedman’s elaborate preparations against their ally, Invincible. This revelation drives half of the team members to depart, resulting in a fragmentation of a crucial superhero faction amidst escalating tensions. The disbandment of the Guardians is likely to become an enduring storyline for the season, with the original comics serving as a potential roadmap for their future reunions and challenges.
Will the Guardians of the Globe Reunite?

In Episode 2, titled “A Deal With The Devil, ”the Guardians officially disband, but a reunion feels imminent. The fallout from Cecil’s secretive tactics has led many of the younger heroes—prompted by Rex Splode—to leave the team and reform the Teen Team, while those remaining include Black Samson, Immortal, Dupli-Kate, Shapesmith, and Darkwing. This division poses a considerable setback for the Guardians, evidenced by their subsequent defeat at the hands of the Mauler Twins.
However, arc developments suggest that the surviving heroes will eventually reunite to restore their original team. In the comics, the transformative “Invincible War”event catalyzes a collaboration among both groups as they face Angstrom Levy and alternate villainous versions of Invincible from the multiverse. The conclusion of this saga sees the Guardians and Teen Team reconstituted, often absorbing new members to fill the gaps left by those who fell in battle. Given that Season 3 is drawing closer to this pivotal moment, it is highly likely that the guardians will come together again by the season’s end.

Character Development within the Teen Team

In the interim, the fragmentation of the Guardians has given audiences a chance to witness a resurgence of the Teen Team. Historically, this group represented a collaborative effort among Invincible’s supporting cast, with notable characters such as Robot, Dupli-Kate, Atom Eve, and Rex Splode forming critical alliances. While the original comic series prominently showcased these characters, the series had previously promoted them to higher ranks within the Guardians, limiting their onscreen synergy.
What makes their return particularly engaging is the opportunity for character growth and development to shine through. Rex and Rae reflect on their respective journeys and transformations, while Robot demonstrates newfound empathy, largely influenced by his relationship with Monster Girl. Bulletproof injects humor into the dynamics by playfully critiquing the team’s name while choosing to stand by his teammates—a shift from his previous tendencies to distance himself. Although the Teen Team may not remain in the spotlight long, their revival allows for richer character exploration and development, enabling the narrative to truly focus on their evolution within the overarching story.
For readers and viewers alike, the evolving dynamics and potential reunions within Invincible offer a blend of anticipation and excitement as the story unfolds.
