Renowned rapper Oschino has recently weighed in on the ongoing tension between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, a topic that ignited earlier this year. In an interview with DJ Vlad, Oschino labeled the feud as the “ugliest, most vicious battle of all time.”He expressed his preference for Drake’s songwriting, stating:
“You know how when you hear a song so frequently that you start to like it? Initially, I wasn’t too impressed with it. Honestly, I believe Drake’s lyrics are superior.”
DJ Vlad asserted that “Family Matters”stands out as the best track released during the rivalry, being the only one he consistently enjoys. He acknowledged the importance of Kendrick’s song “Not Like Us,”to which Vasquez responded:
“Kendrick Lamar has such a strong following on the West Coast that no matter what he does, people will support it. Yet, in my opinion, I find Drake to be better, even though he doesn’t write all his songs. So, he can’t be compared with Kendrick.”
Vlad also noted that this marks the first time in 12 years that Drake hasn’t had a new track on the charts. Vasquez commented on this by saying:
“He seems to be taking a break right now. He dominated the scene so extensively that it feels like he really defined the face of rap for a time.”
Oschino Previously Commended Drake
The rivalry between Drake and Kendrick took off in April, triggered by Drake’s release of two diss tracks, “Push Ups”and “Taylor Made Freestyle,”prompting a response from Kendrick with his song “Euphoria.”
As the conflict evolved, Oschino spoke about it in a podcast for the African Cultural Art Forum in Philadelphia the following month. He referred to Lamar as “overrated,”highlighting Drake’s immense popularity. He elaborated:
“Drake has the most hits. Girls are drawn to him, and he presents himself as a pleasant character.”
While acknowledging Kendrick Lamar’s lyrical talent, Oschino also mentioned:
“Audiences often appreciate what they find a bit difficult to grasp. Lyrics that incorporate clever double entendres are intriguing, but some of Kendrick’s songs don’t resonate with me. His lyrics? Absolutely impressive. Some tracks, however, aren’t my style.”
He continued to voice his admiration for Drake, labeling his output as “impressive”and “lyrical,”while suggesting that he doesn’t find Kendrick’s songs as engaging in comparison.
Over the years, Drake and Lamar had enjoyed a close friendship until the tension escalated with the release of “First Person Shooter,”a collaboration between Drake and J. Cole, which referred to the trio of Drake, Lamar, and Cole as the “big three.”Lamar’s counter-response came in the form of “Like That.”
This escalating rivalry was chronicled in a documentary titled “Public Enemies: Kendrick vs. Drake,”which premiered on October 29, 2024, on Channel 4.
