Origin of the 50 Cent and Diddy Feud: Exploring the Track Implicating Diddy in Notorious B.I.G.’s Murder

The long-standing rivalry between rap legends 50 Cent and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has once again captured the public’s attention, especially with the resurfacing of the track, The Bomb.

On September 25, 2024, 50 Cent officially announced the release of his highly anticipated documentary focusing on Combs, a project he first hinted at back in May 2024. In an exclusive interview with Variety, 50 Cent confirmed that the documentary has secured a distribution deal with Netflix. This news came shortly after Diddy’s arrest on September 16, 2024, where he faced serious charges including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.

The confirmation of 50 Cent’s upcoming documentary, coupled with Diddy’s highly publicized legal troubles, has reignited fan interest in the ongoing feud between these two iconic figures in hip-hop.

The feud between these rap titans began in 2006 with the release of the track The Bomb. In this song, 50 Cent accused Sean Diddy Combs of reportedly having knowledge about the murder of The Notorious B.I.G. (Christopher Wallace), who was tragically shot in a drive-by incident on March 9, 1997, in Los Angeles, California.

Exploring the 50 Cent and Diddy Feud Amid Documentary Release

In The Bomb, 50 Cent explicitly refers to Combs by his former nickname “Puffy,”insinuating that he knows the identity of B.I.G.’s killer. The lyrics state:

“Who shot Biggie Smalls? / We don’t get ’em / They gon’ kill us all / Man Puffy know who hit that ni**a / Man that ni**a soft / He scared them boys from the Westside’ll break him off / Dump on his a*s / So he run to Harlem shake ’em off,”50 rapped.

Since then, the two rappers have publicly exchanged insults through their music and interviews. In 2010, Combs criticized 50 Cent, labeling him a “hating a*s crab,”after 50 took on the management of Diddy’s rival, Rick Ross.

The tension between the two artists resurfaced in 2018 when 50 Cent appeared on Drink Champs and remarked on Diddy’s quirky or uncomfortable commentary. He recounted instances where Diddy had reportedly suggested shopping for him or going to a party, which made 50 feel uneasy. He stated:

“When [Diddy] says things, he doesn’t even know what he’s saying is, like, fruity. He says to Fabolous, ‘Me and you, we need to party. What is you talking about? When people say that to me I get a little uncomfortable,”50 claimed.

In a response during an interview on The Breakfast Club, Diddy claimed that 50 Cent secretly admires him and “pleads”for friendship, adding a new layer to their ongoing conflict. He stated:

“He loves me. Y’all can’t see that he loves me? You really think that’s hate? You know he loves me,”Combs said.

The two have also taken musical shots at one another, with 50 Cent targeting Combs in tracks such as Hip Hop (2007), I Run New York (2005), and My Gun Go Off (2007), while Diddy indirectly referenced 50 Cent in songs like Ghost of Christopher Wallace (2010) and Dirty Money’s Angels (2009).

After Diddy’s arrest, 50 Cent made several remarks on social media. According to Global News, authorities found 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricants at Combs’ residence, which have now been seized. In a post on X, 50 Cent cheekily affirmed that he isn’t in possession of such items, declaring he was in good company.

Moreover, the 49-year-old rapper mentioned on Wednesday through his social media channels that he had previously warned others about the dubious happenings associated with “puffy parties,”but few believed him. He asserted that with the documentary’s release, people would finally understand the reality. The release date for the documentary has yet to be announced.

As reported by NBC News, Combs is currently on suicide watch while in federal custody as he awaits trial.
