OpenAI Introduces OneDrive and SharePoint Connector for ChatGPT After GitHub

OpenAI Unveils New ChatGPT Integrations for Enhanced Document Research

In a significant advancement for users, OpenAI recently introduced a GitHub connector for ChatGPT, enabling deep research capabilities focused on source code repositories. By establishing a connection with GitHub, users can pose queries, while ChatGPT’s research agent scans the repository’s source code and pull requests to generate comprehensive reports complete with citations.

Furthermore, OpenAI has rolled out an important integration targeting enterprise users, allowing ChatGPT to interface with Microsoft OneDrive and SharePoint document libraries for enhanced deep research functionality. This feature, currently in beta, is accessible to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users, though those in the EEA, Switzerland, and the UK are excluded for the time being. OpenAI has also hinted at future accessibility for ChatGPT Enterprise users. Let’s explore how this integration works:

With the connection to Microsoft OneDrive or SharePoint, ChatGPT gains access to live data from your files, facilitating real-time analysis. Users simply connect their accounts, pose questions, and the deep research tool will read, analyze, and cite pertinent information from their files.

Connecting ChatGPT to OneDrive and SharePoint

Users looking to leverage this innovative integration can connect Microsoft OneDrive or SharePoint by following these steps:

  • Select “deep research”in the text composer, click the down arrow, and choose SharePoint. You will then need to sign in, authorize the ChatGPT connector, and select which folders ChatGPT can access.
  • Alternatively, access the connection setup via ChatGPT Settings by navigating to Connected Apps, selecting Connectors, and clicking Connect next to Microsoft OneDrive (work/school).

Once the connection is established, users can ask ChatGPT questions such as “Can you show me the Q1 financial summary for North America?” or “Can you find the sales data for January in Europe?” This functionality empowers teams with rapid insights, making document handling more efficient.

It’s important to note that Microsoft 365 administrators will need to approve the ChatGPT application within their organization, which involves granting tenant-wide admin consent for third-party apps connecting to OneDrive and SharePoint.
