NVIDIA to Supply OpenAI with ’10GW’ Vera Rubin AI Systems by Next Year

The appetite for increased AI processing power continues to grow, prompting NVIDIA to establish partnerships totaling billions of dollars. This aligns with their commitment to enhance AI computing capabilities for customers. Recently, NVIDIA finalized a significant agreement with Intel and followed it up with a groundbreaking announcement that they will provide OpenAI with computing infrastructure valued at $100 billion, deploying “at least 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA systems”to support OpenAI’s next-generation AI efforts.

This collaboration centers around NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin technology, with OpenAI set to purchase an impressive $100 billion worth of Rubin AI clusters, which may include configurations like the NVL144 and the advanced Rubin CPX platform. This alliance positions OpenAI as a premier customer for the Vera Rubin systems, granting them early access to some of the most powerful AI infrastructure available.

NVIDIA and OpenAI have pushed each other for a decade, from the first DGX supercomputer to the breakthrough of ChatGPT. This investment and infrastructure partnership mark the next leap forward — deploying 10 gigawatts to power the next era of intelligence.

Considering the projected power consumption, this deal could facilitate the acquisition of up to 40, 000 Rubin AI racks by OpenAI, an astonishing figure for equipment that hasn’t yet reached the market. NVIDIA is targeting volume production of its Rubin series for the second half of 2026, which aligns with the expected availability for OpenAI and other firms. The Rubin line promises significant advancements over previous models, particularly when compared to the Blackwell series, presenting enormous potential for enhanced AI processing capabilities.
