Microsoft Enhances Document Sharing on iOS Devices
In a significant update, Microsoft has made it easier for users to access shared Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents on their iPhones and iPads without the requirement of a Microsoft account. This feature, previously accessible only through web browsers, now extends to Microsoft’s mobile applications, promoting greater flexibility for document sharing.
Account-Free Access for Viewing
This new functionality allows users to view documents anonymously on their mobile devices. However, it’s important to note that if you wish to edit or comment on these files, you will still need to sign in with a Microsoft account. Microsoft’s initiative aims to streamline the process of document sharing and collaboration, enabling users to collect feedback effortlessly.
How to Share Documents Effortlessly on iOS
If you want to share documents with your contacts using an iPhone or iPad, follow these simple steps:
- Launch the Word, Excel, or PowerPoint app and open the file you wish to share.
- Select Share and then tap on Link settings (represented by the gear icon in the top-right corner).Choose either Anyone with the link can edit or Anyone with the link can view, then hit Apply.
- To share the link, enter the email addresses of the intended recipients in the Share dialog box and click Send. Alternatively, you can use the Copy link option and paste it into a messaging application such as Microsoft Outlook or Teams.
Requirements for Accessing Shared Documents
To use the account-free feature, ensure that you have Word, Excel, or PowerPoint installed on your device, with a version of 2.94 Build 25020422 or later. Should you encounter any challenges accessing these shared files, Microsoft encourages users to provide feedback. This can be done by navigating to Settings > Send Feedback within any of the applications and including the hashtag #AnonAccess
in your comments.
