Exciting New Features Coming to OneNote
Recently, Microsoft announced an eagerly awaited enhancement for Excel users: an auto-refresh feature for PivotTables. But that’s not all. The company is poised to introduce additional sought-after functionalities in OneNote, promising to improve user experience significantly.
Merging Cells in OneNote Tables
One of the standout additions is the capability to merge cells within OneNote tables, a feature familiar to Excel users. This functionality allows for both horizontal and vertical grouping, ensuring proper content alignment. While Insiders currently have access to display merged cells across all OneNote platforms, the actual creation of merged cells is limited to Windows, Mac, and iPad users at this time. Unfortunately, iPhone, Android, and web users will need to wait a bit longer for this functionality to become available.
Streamlined Text Pasting Options
Another practical update is the introduction of the Paste Text Only shortcut, also known as Paste Without Formatting. Users on Windows can utilize the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + V, while Mac users can employ Cmd + Shift + V. This feature mirrors similar functions in other Microsoft 365 applications like Word and Teams. The aim is to enhance content consistency by maintaining uniform fonts and styles when pasting text. Additionally, users can access this feature via the right-click context menu > Paste Text Only or through the Home > Paste > Paste Options > Keep Text Only menu.
Understanding the Formatting Behavior
It’s essential to note that when utilizing the Paste Text Only feature, the pasted content will adopt the formatting of the target location in OneNote rather than retaining the style of the original source. Currently, this capability is available for Insiders using Windows, Mac, and web versions. If you’re not seeing these features yet, it may be due to the phased rollout, so keep an eye out for updates.
