OneDrive Introduces Colorful Folders in Windows 11 File Explorer and New Features
Microsoft has revealed an array of new features for OneDrive, its cloud storage platform designed for both personal and business use. These enhancements aim to “enhance your productivity, keep you organized, and allow you to cherish life’s greatest moments.”
The tech giant claims to have optimized OneDrive for a better user experience, particularly when it comes to navigating extensive libraries, filtering documents, and conducting various tasks. The revamped search functionality now offers improved controls, enabling users to discover a wider array of results from OneDrive, shared libraries, or documents associated with other users.
For Windows aficionados, colorful folders are making their debut in OneDrive within File Explorer, facilitating superior file sorting and organization. This feature is currently being rolled out, and users who have set up colored folders in OneDrive for the web will soon witness this aesthetic in File Explorer as well. Furthermore, Microsoft has enhanced the sharing experience, enabling users to observe real-time collaborative activities on specific documents.
Additionally, Microsoft assures significant enhancements to the document library experience, promising “greater flexibility and speed”with OneDrive. These improvements are expected to roll out around mid-2025, although detailed information remains forthcoming.

The photo-sharing process has been simplified for users who do not utilize OneDrive, allowing the transmission of high-resolution images without requiring a login. A significant announcement is the introduction of Copilot for OneDrive, which is now available to commercial users. This tool allows users to summarize documents, compare multiple files simultaneously, and obtain answers regarding specific files, among additional functionalities.
