One Piece Creator Addresses Plot Hole, Revealing an Enemy’s Hidden Kindness

The world of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is renowned for its complex mysteries that keep fans eagerly engaged in uncovering hidden truths. Among various arcs that delve deeper into these enigmas, the Egghead Arc stands out for its significant revelations, particularly those coming from the brilliant scientist Vegapunk. Yet, this arc also introduces fresh questions that have sparked intense speculation among fans.

During the climactic skirmishes of the Egghead Arc, Monkey D. Luffy finds himself at a low point after exhausting his Gear 5 form while battling Saturn Jaygarcia, one of the Five Elders. Overwhelmed by fatigue and hunger, Luffy makes repeated pleas for food. Intriguingly, sustenance mysteriously arrives just in time, fueling fan theories about its origin. Recent insights from Eiichiro Oda clarified that Admiral Borsalino, known as Kizaru, was the unexpected benefactor of this food.

In the latest volumes of One Piece, the SBS (Shitsumon o Boshū suru?, or “I’m Taking Questions”) feature allows Oda to interact with fans, often providing humorous or insightful answers. A recent inquiry focused on the sudden provision of food to Luffy during the intense battle on Egghead Island. Although Oda refrains from stating outright that Kizaru was the one who intervened, his clues strongly imply this connection.

Oda emphasizes that only a being moving at the speed of light could have accomplished this feat, a hint pointing unequivocally toward Kizaru. As the second Admiral introduced in the series, Kizaru previously impacted the Straw Hat crew significantly during the Sabaody Arc. However, his apparent willingness to assist Luffy during the Egghead Arc suggests a nuanced character development, revealing a potential soft side and indicating a possibility of betrayal against the World Government.

Kizaru: Motivated to Betray the World Government?

The Egghead Arc delves into emotional backstories, particularly focusing on Kuma and Vegapunk. These revelations highlight Kizaru’s close relationships with both figures, marking them as friends. His conflicting roles—inflicting wounds on Vegapunk and facing Sentomaru, who he views as family—form compelling motivations for his actions. This emotional complexity likely influenced Kizaru’s decision to assist Luffy, ultimately altering the outcome of the conflict in favor of the Straw Hats.

Kizaru operates under the principle of “Unclear Justice,”a philosophy that invites diverse interpretations. Yet, the choices he makes in this arc suggest an openness to betraying the World Government if it means safeguarding those he cherishes. With Vegapunk’s insights revealing the dark realities behind the World Government, Kizaru may already be weighing his loyalty against his moral compass. His outburst at Admiral Akainu signals a deep regret for his past actions, deepening the layers of his character.

While it is unfortunate that such critical information is conveyed through the SBS instead of being fleshed out in a narrative flashback, which would have enriched Kizaru’s character arc, fans are left with anticipation. Should Kizaru decide to oppose the World Government in future One Piece storylines, it would not come as a surprise, as evidence of his evolving disposition and the hints of transformation from adversary to ally have already been firmly established.
