One Piece Achieves Creator’s Biggest Dream After Over 20 Years

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for One Piece chapter 1126

The popular live-action adaptation of One Piece by Netflix has successfully realized author Eiichiro Oda’s vision of exposing his renowned series to a wider audience. Now, in an exciting turn of events, the show has opened the door for another of Oda’s aspirations: a collaboration with LEGO! This partnership will focus on creating LEGO sets inspired by the Netflix series, depicting key moments from the first season that encapsulates much of the East Blue saga from the original manga.

While no specific release date has been announced, LEGO has indicated that these creations are expected to coincide with the highly anticipated return of One Piece’s live-action season 2. The announcement, made through the show’s official social media channels, featured Oda’s enthusiasm about this collaboration, including a heartfelt quote and a unique illustration from him.

Why A One Piece x LEGO Collaboration Is A Dream For Oda

Oda’s Passion for LEGO

Oda’s exhilaration is evident in his accompanying illustration, where he reveals his enthusiasm for building LEGO sets and shares glimpses of his extensive collection that resides in his office. He humorously noted his longstanding desire for a One Piece LEGO line, showcasing a character in a LEGO reinterpretation of Luffy dressed in his time-skip attire.

Additionally, Oda has pledged to assemble and display the forthcoming sets, rounding off his message with a cheerful “Woohoo!!”Interestingly, his admiration for LEGO has historical roots, as evidenced as early as chapter 622 of One Piece, titled “The Sun God, ”which depicted the Straw Hat crew constructing a structure resembling a castle out of blocks akin to LEGOs.

The Current Relevance of LEGO in One Piece Manga

Exploring Elbaph in the One Piece Narrative

In connection with this upcoming collaboration, Netflix has released a teaser video featuring a LEGO rendition of Luffy’s iconic straw hat, depicting its retrieval by an outstretched LEGO arm from off-screen. While the live-action series is just beginning, the manga has progressed to the intriguing Land of Gods segment within Elbaph. This area, designed similarly to LEGO-like blocks reminiscent of a previous color spread, provides a playful nod to the aesthetic.

The Straw Hat Pirates find themselves awakening in Elbaph, particularly in a district known as the Land of Gods, a grand, enclosure within a castle sanctuary where humans coexist with colossal creatures deemed as deities. This location was crafted by a character known as Road, the ‘Sun God, ’ aptly named after chapter 622.There is potential symbolism linking the building blocks to the concept of the Sun God, particularly in relation to the abilities presented in the Hito Hito no Mi: Model Nika, although the nature of this connection remains speculative. Nevertheless, fans have ample reason to feel excited about the upcoming LEGO offering from One Piece.
