“One of us got to play here”: Steph Curry reflects on family ties with Hornets organization

Despite the triumph, the Golden State Warriors’ win against the Charlotte Hornets was overshadowed by Steph Curry’s sentimental return to where his basketball career began. From witnessing his father’s games with the Hornets to his own time playing for the Davidson Wildcats, the four-time NBA champion is grateful to see aspects of his upbringing still thriving in North Carolina, including his brother, Seth Curry.

On February 8th, Seth was transferred from the Dallas Mavericks to the Charlotte Hornets along with Grant Williams. This opportunity allowed him to reunite and have more quality time with his father, Dell Curry, who also serves as a commentator for the Hornets’ games.

Despite watching his family reunion from the West Coast, Steph Curry eagerly marked his calendar for the day he could return to North Carolina and reunite with his father and brother. Following the game, the former league MVP expressed his joy to reporters over seeing his brother, Seth, wearing their father’s jersey number while playing for the Hornets.

“It’s very surreal for sure just to know that you know one of us got to play here and wear the number 30 and pinstripes and all that,”said Steph. “I enjoy the experience of knowing that there’s a Curry presence in the Hornets organization and tonight I get to join the party.”

Seth Curry Joins Father Dell Curry in Commentary as Brother Steph Curry Dominates the Charlotte Hornets

Despite Seth recovering from an ankle injury, the Warriors’ game against the Hornets was still a Curry family affair. He may not have been on the court, but he still found a way to participate by joining his father in the broadcast booth and sharing stories about his brother, Steph Curry.

In a report by the Charlotte Observer, Seth Curry acknowledged the presence of sibling rivalry, but he also noted that his older brother had a significant impact on his upbringing. Beyond just basketball, Seth mentioned during the broadcast that they would engage in competitive activities, and even in video games and chess, Steph would come out as the victor.

Steph Curry contemplated the situation:

“Both are true,” said Steph. “It’s true. He’s even trying to catch up now on the golf course. He’s gotten a lot better out there. I’ll have to go back and listen to it for sure to see what the energy was like on the broadcast. That’s cool. I’m out there on the floor and those two guys are talking. So, pretty special.”

Curry’s performance of 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including four three-pointers, helped lead the Warriors to victory. Despite their current record of 39-34, the Golden State Warriors maintain their position in the NBA Play-In Tournament, while the Rockets remain just below them by a single game.
