“One of the nicest things ever”: K. Michelle feels “motivated” after Beyonce sent her flowers and a note amid country album’s release
In a heartwarming gesture, K. Michelle shared on Instagram on March 29 a kind gesture from Beyonce amidst the release of the country album, Cowboy Carter. Michelle uploaded a photo of a beautiful bouquet of white flowers and a card from the Halo singer with a heartfelt message.
“You’re killing it! I love what you’ve been doing and I know it’s not easy to enter a new space. Sending you positivity and respect. I hope to meet you one day. Love, Beyonce”
Despite being grateful for the kind gesture, Michelle expressed her gratitude in the caption, stating:
“Beyonceeeeeeeeeee! WOW! This is soooo nice. One of the nicest things EVER, I’m in tears. Thank you for giving me my flowers, they are so beautiful. I’m so nervous about FINALLY getting to put out my first country album, and this just fueled the fire I’m so motivated.”
In 2023, K. Michelle revealed that her upcoming album, I’m the Problem, would mark her final R&B release before transitioning to country music.
K. Michelle shifts focus to country music
Following a successful 15-year career in R&B, K. Michelle revealed in 2023 that she would be venturing into country music with her new album, I’m the Problem. The highly-anticipated album would signal her departure from R&B and showcase her pivot into the country genre. In the same year, she delighted fans with the release of Country Love Song, featuring the talented Justin Champagne.
In a 2020 interview on the Yes, Girl! podcast, the singer shared her experience of transitioning to country music. She emphasized the importance for artists in this genre to prove themselves in order to make a breakthrough.
“I do respect country music’s stance on some things, which we should take the same stance on in our music and R&B. We just let anybody in. Anybody can rap. Country is not going to play with you like that. You’re going to pay your dues. You’re going to know how to write. You’re going to know how to sing.”
The artist also disclosed the challenges she faced as a black woman in the industry, citing the struggles of fellow black artists like Lil Nas X as examples.
She went on to say:
“They automatically assume because I’m Black, that I’m about to start rapping or making fun. They consider it making fun of their genre because think about it: if we had someone of another ethnicity come in, which we do, come in and try to sound just like us mimicking us, we would be in an uproar. Right? We already are in an uproar about some of these (rappers).”
In November 2023, K. Michelle and Jelly Roll took the stage together at the 2023 Country Music Awards. When asked by US Weekly about her move to Country Music, Michelle expressed, “It’s a part of my identity.”
In addition to K. Michelle, Beyonce also showed her support by sending flowers to other Black female music artists, including Mickey Guyton who made history as the first Black female solo artist to receive a Grammy nomination for country music.
