“One of my biggest rivals” – Marat Grigorian weighs in on epic rivalry with kickboxing great Superbon

Marat Grigorian, currently the second-ranked featherweight kickboxing contender in ONE, firmly believes that he and Superbon will always be connected due to their enduring rivalry that has lasted for six years. They initially faced off in 2018 and continue to compete against each other to this day.

Grigorian and Superbon have been selected as the headlining fighters for the highly-anticipated ONE Friday Fights 58 event on April 5 at the historic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. They will face off for the ONE interim featherweight kickboxing world championship.

In an interview with ONE Championship before their rematch, the Armenian striker acknowledges that the Thai combat sports legend has been one of his toughest opponents in his professional fighting career, stating:

“We fought each other a [couple] of times. And they were always on the top, always for the title or some super fight. So yeah, he is one of my biggest rivals in this division.”

After facing off twice, the two renowned kickboxing competitors are tied with one win each. In 2018, Marat Grigorian emerged victorious, but in 2022, Superbon avenged his previous defeat. The upcoming match between them will determine the ultimate rival and determine who will challenge the current undefeated ruler of the division, Chingiz Allazov.

During their 2022 meeting, Marat Grigorian admitted to struggling with various external factors that hindered his performance in the ring. However, he has since resolved these issues and assures a stronger performance this time around.

The Hemmers gym representative emphasized the significance of having a strong mental game when competing at the highest level, stating that physical strength and prowess alone will not suffice for achieving remarkable success.

ONE Friday Fights 58 will be broadcasted globally on pay-per-view through watch.onefc.com during primetime in Asia on April 5.
