Olympic Gold medalist Gable Steveson leaves Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson amazed by discussing the origin of his backflip
Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson was left amazed by Gable Steveson’s explanation of the origins of his viral backflip during a recent discussion.
After winning an Olympic Gold medal, the American athlete became a highly coveted individual by UFC, Bellator, and WWE, all vying to sign him. Despite having offers from multiple organizations, he ultimately decided on WWE due to his desire to pursue a career in pro wrestling and the opportunity provided by the NIL program. However, he has not ruled out the possibility of competing in an MMA fight in the future.
During his guest spot on Jaxxon Podcast with former UFC light heavyweight champion Luke Rockhold and Laura Sanko, Steveson delved into the origins of his signature backflip. As a heavyweight, his athleticism is truly impressive, making the feat all the more remarkable. He revealed that one of his teammates had suggested he incorporate the backflip as a way to top off his historic season.
“My senior year, I won 173 matches in a row in high school and I had the best winning percentage in Minnesota history…[One of my teammates] said, ‘I think it [backflip] would be good for you to show athleticism’, and the guy I was wrestling, I pinned him in 11-seconds in the state finals before, so I went out there pinned him in 17-seconds, and I did the backflip then that’s how it started.”
Jackson was astounded by Steveson’s incredible athleticism, highlighting the exceptional abilities of the Olympic Gold medalist-turned-WWE superstar.
Gable Steveson discusses the impact of his NIL deal
Ever since their introduction, NIL deals have caused a significant change in the world of collegiate sports in the United States. Most recently, Gable Steveson shared his thoughts on how the deal has impacted his college experience.
During his aforementioned appearance, Gable Steveson emphasized the importance of the NIL deal he signed with WWE. He stated that it not only served as a pathway to pro wrestling, but also allowed him to prioritize his academics and obtain his degree. He stated:
“My most important thing was how can I graduate? I wanted the paper cause at the end of the day, whatever I do with my life, no one can I say I’m not intelligent, that I didn’t graduate, that I left early, so I wanted the degree…Which allowed WWE to start the NIL program and that’s how I got with WWE and I still am now.”[21:59 – 22:23]
