“Officially in danger territory”: LA Lakers fans in shambles after Wizards nearly cause an upset with improbable comeback

Despite the significant difference in standings, the LA Lakers (45-33) faced off against the Washington Wizards (15-62) in their recent game. With the odds in their favor, the Lakers were expected to secure an easy win. However, the Wizards put up a strong fight and nearly pulled off a comeback upset victory in the fourth quarter, although the Lakers ultimately managed to secure the win.

Luckily for the Purple and Gold, they were able to hold onto their lead and narrowly avoided a potentially humiliating result.

Despite nearly losing to one of the worst teams in the NBA today, the LA Lakers are being heavily criticized by fans on social media. Numerous comments on X/Twitter express disappointment and frustration with the team’s performance.

“We are officially in danger territory.”

“This horrific coach Ham wouldn’t call a timeout even if he was at gunpoint”

“I don’t understand how you can let a team go on a 15-0 run and not call a timeout in between that run?”

Twitter user Matthew Edwards (@Matthew_E91) brought attention to the lack of competence in coach Darvin Ham for the LA Lakers. He emphasized the fact that despite having a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter, the team did not take a single timeout and nearly lost the game.

“Darvin just watched a 17 point lead get dwindled down to 2 and didn’t take a single timeout. In complete seriousness what is the point of having a coach out there if he’s just going to stand there and do less than a dead man could?”

User Lakers101 (@bray_lo23) took to Twitter to express their frustration with coach Darvin Ham, declaring him as the downfall of the Purple and Gold team.

“We’re gonna lose and it’s all because Ham failed to make any adjustments or call any timeouts.”

Contrary to the norm, Twitter user David Sabatini (@DavidSabatini10) placed the blame on Anthony Davis and LeBron James instead of coach Ham.

“Let’s stop blaming Ham for this, it is Lebron and AD fault for giving up big leads.”

Despite getting pulverized down the stretch, coach Ham was called out by Twitter user LakerStan (@LakerSimp) for settling on a three-guard lineup.

“Pockets just watching 3 guard lineups ruin our lead!!”

Finally, David (@drose2664) took a jab at D’Angelo Russell on Twitter for his statement that the Lakers were still enjoying themselves despite almost losing the game.

“But according to DLo they are having fun”

The LA Lakers took on the Washington Wizards on Wednesday in their last away game before heading back home to play against the Cleveland Cavaliers (46-30). After winning their past two games, the Lakers were determined to continue their streak of victories.

With the New Orleans Pelicans (45-30) currently in sixth place in the Western Conference, the Lakers sit just two games behind them. A win against Washington would greatly improve their chances of securing the No. 6 seed in the playoffs.

The LA Lakers established a commanding 39-29 lead in the first quarter, thanks to their strong performance from the start. Anthony Davis led the team with an impressive 19 points in the opening period, receiving valuable support from D’Angelo Russell who contributed eight points.

Jordan Poole continued to make an impact in the first quarter, scoring 13 points for the Wizards. Despite his contributions, the Lakers’ offensive dominance, led by Davis, proved insurmountable for Washington, ultimately giving them the advantage.

During the second quarter, LeBron James made a significant impact by scoring 11 points, ensuring that the Lakers maintained their lead. As Davis began to slow down, James’ contribution became even more crucial in keeping the team ahead.

Despite Kyle Kuzma and Poole’s efforts to close the margin, the Lakers held onto their 67-60 lead going into halftime. The intensity of the game continued, with both teams fiercely battling to stay in the running.

In the third quarter, the Lakers furthered their lead by outscoring the Wizards 34-26, resulting in a dominant 101-86 advantage. The team’s starters, including Russell, Davis, and Rui Hachimura, all made valuable contributions.

Despite a valiant fourth quarter effort by the Wizards, cutting the lead to only five points, the LA Lakers persevered for a gritty 125-120 win. Led by a standout double-double performance from Anthony Davis, the Lakers received a strong contribution from the rest of their starting lineup en route to victory.
