World of Warcraft has unveiled an official preview of its upcoming zone, Undermine, set to debut in Patch 11.1. This highly anticipated update, which is part of the larger storyline, The War Within, promises a plethora of adventures where players will combat oppression and navigate through chaotic environments.
Announced during last year’s Warcraft Direct, Patch 11.1, titled Undermined, is currently accessible on the Public Test Realm. This content update transports gamers to the underground Goblin city of Undermine, where the ongoing conflict continues against key antagonists like Xal’atath and Gallywix. Here, players will uncover the consequences of the damaged Dark Heart and its implications on their adventures.
The newly revealed iconography of Undermine features various points of interest that are crucial to the player’s journey. The Incontinental Hotel serves as a primary hub for adventurers, while Slam Central Station offers connections to diverse areas throughout the World of Warcraft universe. The Demolition Dome is now the battleground for the latest PvP Arena, known as the Cage of Carnage, and The Gallagio is positioned as the climactic endpoint of the Liberation of Undermine raid.
Discovering Undermine – The Patch 11.1 Zone
Adventurers in Undermine will have the unique opportunity to partner with one of the four prominent Goblin Cartels each week.
The Bilgewater Cartel, consisting of inventive tinkers, is led by Monte Gazlowe from the Bilgewater Flats. Conversely, the Blackwater Cartel, run by Baron Revilgaz, consists of former pirates turned vacation and shipping magnates who operate out of Blackwater Marina. Players can also choose to work with the alchemist-heavy Steamwheedle Cartel, led by Marin Noggenfogger from The Vatworks, or the Venture Co. acquisition specialists under Grimla Fizzlecrank found in The Heaps. Speculation even hints at a mysterious fifth Cartel that may soon be revealed.
These factions collectively form the Cartels of Undermine Renown, similar to the Severed Threads presented in World of Warcraft: The War Within. Engaging with these Cartels can yield tremendous rewards, such as the coveted Topskimmer Special rocket mount.

In addition to exploring Undermine, players can challenge themselves with the new Operation: Floodgate dungeon located in the Ringing Deeps. This dungeon pits them against four formidable bosses, including the goons of Gallywix and feral creatures, as they strive to thwart Geezle Gigazap’s plans to detonate The Waterworks and potentially inundate the entire zone.
Meet the Bosses of Operation: Floodgate
- Big M.O.M.M.A – A prototype mech powered by Black Blood, piloted by the Darkfuse enforcer Silva Stratospark.
- Demolition Duo – Featuring Keeza Quickfuse and Bront, the masterminds behind “explosive restructuring.”
- Swampface – An uproarious muddy plant monster awakened by Gallywix’s minions.
- Geezle Gigazap – The electrifying genius behind “THE PROJECT.”
To embark on the quest When Opportunity Explodes, which serves as an introduction to the Patch 11.1 campaign and Undermine location, players must first complete the leveling campaign from The War Within. Although finishing the max-level campaign and the following Lingering Shadows chapter from Patch 11.0.7 will bridge the storyline into 11.1, players will not be required to complete them to enjoy the new impending content, anticipated to launch either on February 18 or 25.
