Mojang Announces Major Update for Minecraft: The Copper Age

This year, Mojang unveiled plans for a significant content update designed to revitalize the use of Copper in Minecraft, aptly named The Copper Age. This update aims to transform how players interact with Copper ores and ingots, making them far more functional within the game.

Revamping a Long-Underutilized Resource

Copper has been part of the Minecraft landscape since 2021, appearing frequently within the overworld. However, its applications have been relatively limited—until now. With the introduction of The Copper Age, Minecraft enthusiasts can expect a broad expansion of Copper’s utility.

The Copper Golem: A New Companion

A standout feature of this upcoming update is the introduction of the Copper Golem. Players can create this helpful automaton by placing a carved pumpkin atop a copper block. Once crafted, the Golem will circulate around the player’s base, assisting in item organization by utilizing the newly introduced Copper Chest. Like all Copper elements, both the Golem and the Chest will undergo oxidation over time, requiring some maintenance.

Interestingly, once a Copper Golem is fully oxidized, it stops functioning until it is scraped with an axe. Players can also use honeycomb to wax the Golem, preventing further oxidation. Mojang hinted at intriguing interactions between the Copper Golem and Iron Golems, creating possibilities for unique gameplay experiences.

In addition to the Golem, Copper ingots—smelted from Copper ore—will become essential for crafting a new tier of equipment and armor. This expansion allows players to forge tools, weapons, and even horse armor from Copper, placing it between wooden and iron items in terms of toughness and durability.

The Copper Age update introduces a variety of decorative items including new Lanterns, Torches, Chains, and Bars. Furthermore, the update will feature Shelf Blocks, a novel addition that will enable players to display items on walls and facilitate hotbar swapping with other players. To improve visual accessibility, the icons for dyes are also set to be redesigned.
