‘Off-Campus’ TV Series Release Schedule, Plot Details, and Additional Information

The romance genre has seen an incredible surge in popularity within the publishing industry in recent years, and now, Hollywood is beginning to tap into this trend. Prime Video is adapting Elle Kennedy’s acclaimed Off-Campus hockey romance series for a television audience, reflecting the genre’s growing appeal.

While competing streaming services like Netflix are also jumping on the romance bandwagon—most notably with their adaptation of Emily Henry’s best-selling novel, Happy Place—Prime Video emerges as a fitting platform for Kennedy’s Off-Campus series. This adaptation follows a wave of other successful romance adaptations such as My Lady Jane, The Summer I Turned Pretty, and the entertaining My Fault films, including both Spanish and English versions. However, it’s worth noting that My Lady Jane was unfortunately axed after just one season.

Here’s an overview of what we know so far about the upcoming Off-Campus television adaptation.

Release Timeline for Off-Campus on Prime Video

Production for the Off-Campus series is slated to commence on June 9, 2025, in Vancouver, Canada, and is expected to conclude by early October. Although no official release date has been announced, the filming timeline suggests that viewers can anticipate the show’s premiere sometime in early to mid-2026. Currently, there is no information regarding the cast. However, Elle Kennedy will take on the role of producer, with Louisa Levy—known for her work on Death and Other Details and The Flight Attendant—joining as the showrunner and executive producer.

Plot Insights for Off-Campus

The Off-Campus series comprises five novels, each focusing on a different star hockey player from Briar University and their transformative relationships with the women who impact their lives deeply. The adaptation’s inaugural season will draw inspiration from the first book, The Deal, which centers around Garrett Graham, the captain of the hockey team. Struggling academically but eager to reach professional status, Garrett finds himself in a tricky situation when he encounters Hannah Wells, a young woman who’s finally attracted to someone but is uncertain how to make her move. They strike a bargain: Hannah will assist Garrett with his homework, while Garrett will teach Hannah the nuances of seduction. What could possibly go awry?

Importantly, Kennedy’s novels are more suited for adult audiences than young adults, featuring numerous “spicy” scenes that align them more closely with My Lady Jane than with The Summer I Turned Pretty—assuming Prime Video chooses to include such content. The themes explored reflect the crucial transition into adulthood during college, a distinct period that varies significantly from the high school experience. The series tackles serious topics such as childhood trauma, alcohol abuse, anxiety, and sexual harassment, resonating deeply with many viewers.

Should the inaugural season of Off-Campus garner a favorable response, fans could be in for additional seasons, as the last book serves as an epilogue tying together the stories of all four main couples. Furthermore, Kennedy has expanded her universe with two other series set on Briar University’s campus: Campus Diaries and Briar U.
