NVIDIA has announced an exciting enhancement for gamers, as its newly launched Smooth Motion technology is set to be compatible with the GeForce RTX 40 graphics processing units (GPUs).This feature promises to enable frame generation across a wide array of games, providing a noticeable improvement in gaming fluidity.
Competing with AMD: What Smooth Motion Offers
NVIDIA’s Smooth Motion technology emerges as a direct competitor to AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames. For titles that currently lack support for Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), NVIDIA’s innovative solution aims to enhance gameplay smoothness significantly. With the new driver technology, players can achieve a more seamless gaming experience without needing native support for DLSS.
Current Availability and Future Updates
As of now, you can access the Smooth Motion option through the NVIDIA Control Panel under the DSR – Factors menu, but this feature currently requires the latest Blackwell GPUs. Notably, the initial rollout of Smooth Motion is limited to the GeForce RTX 50 series. However, NVIDIA has confirmed plans to extend support to the GeForce RTX 40 series in an upcoming software update, although details regarding prior-generation RTX models remain uncertain.

While a direct comparison with DLSS Frame Generation is yet to be established, it is anticipated that Smooth Motion may not match the performance of the more developed and thoroughly optimized DLSS technology, which has been refined over time through extensive developer integration. Nevertheless, Smooth Motion presents an excellent alternative for gamers who experience issues maintaining high frames per second (fps) in titles that lack native DLSS support.
