The NVIDIA Blackwell RTX 50 series graphics cards are steadily gaining traction in the gaming community, as indicated by recent data from Steam. However, these GPUs still have a considerable distance to cover before they can compete for a top 10 spot in popularity rankings among users.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Dominates Steam Hardware Survey in August, Yet RTX 5060 Achieves Largest Share Growth
The August 2025 Steam Hardware Survey has revealed intriguing insights regarding the popularity of gaming hardware. It’s worth noting that while the survey provides a snapshot of the current landscape, it primarily reflects the preferences of participants rather than an exhaustive market analysis. For several months, the older GeForce RTX 4060 has consistently topped the charts, underscoring the slow transition to new generation GPUs.
Furthermore, many of the top entries in the survey remain dominated by earlier models, including those from the RTX 40 and 30 series, as well as GPUs from NVIDIA’s Turing line. This suggests that a significant portion of gamers continue to rely on older hardware rather than upgrading to the newer RTX 50 or RX 9000 series due to a variety of factors.
Market Share Overview of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 GPUs (Steam Hardware Survey)
Graphics Card | August 2025 | June 2025 | Starting Share |
---|---|---|---|
GeForce RTX 5070 | 1.57% | 0.99% | 0.38% (April 25) |
GeForce RTX 5060 | 1.01% | 0.34% | N/A |
GeForce RTX 5070 Ti | 0.75% | 0.55% | 0.28% (April 25) |
GeForce RTX 5080 | 0.74% | 0.57% | 0.20% (March 25) |
GeForce RTX 5060 Ti | 0.74% | 0.41% | 0.21% (May 25) |
GeForce RTX 5090 | 0.26% | 0.19% | N/A |
According to the recent survey results, the GeForce RTX 5070 ranks as the most sought-after GPU within the RTX 50 series, charting at the 19th position on Steam. This graphics card’s growing appeal is further substantiated by its popularity across major e-commerce platforms like Amazon.

With a notable increase of 0.25%, the GeForce RTX 5070 is gradually enhancing its market share to reach 1.57%.Yet, it is the RTX 5060 that has demonstrated even more substantial growth. This entry-level GPU saw an impressive 0.41% increase, lifting its market share to 1.01%, making it one of the most appealing options for budget-conscious consumers.

This surge in the RTX 5060’s popularity can be attributed to its excellent value proposition, offering 8 GB of VRAM at a competitive price point around $300. Gamers seeking performance improvements are increasingly choosing this model over older counterparts like the RTX 4060 and RTX 3060, which remain comparable in price.

In terms of VRAM configurations, 8 GB cards represent the largest segment of the market, claiming 35.03% of the total user base, with an increase of 1.37%.In contrast, GPUs with 16 GB and 12 GB capacities have only achieved 6.80% and 19.30% market shares, respectively.
Interestingly, there have been no notable sightings of AMD’s RDNA 4-based Radeon RX 9000 GPUs recently, despite their strong sales, particularly the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9060 XT. Although their absence from the survey does not necessarily signify decreased popularity, it indicates a shifting landscape that remains dominated by Nvidia’s offerings. Looking ahead, we anticipate continued growth in the RTX 50 series market share as older models phase out, making room for newer generations.

Examining the CPU segment, 6-core processors lead the market with a share of 30.64%, favored by many gamers for their balance of performance and efficiency. Meanwhile, Windows 11 retains its stronghold over operating system usage, reaching 63.18% in August, following a modest increase of 0.28%.
