NVIDIA RTX 50 Series Graphics Cards Exceed MSRP Months After Launch; RTX 5090 Price Nears $3000

The pricing landscape for NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series mirrors that of AMD’s RX 9070 series, with minimal reductions observed since their respective launches. Unfortunately, they remain notably expensive across various markets.

NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series Prices Remain Stubbornly High Even Months Post-Launch

Recent reports indicate that NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series is struggling with price stabilization, similar to AMD’s RDNA 4 lineup, which has also failed to adhere to its original MSRP commitments. While NVIDIA’s offerings launched earlier than AMD’s, they too haven’t managed to make substantial advancements in pricing strategies.

A study by Computerbase tracked the prices of RTX 50 series GPUs from Week 13 to Week 17, noting only a slight decline in retail prices for all models. Regrettably, these prices continue to exceed NVIDIA’s initial announcements significantly. For instance, the flagship GeForce RTX 5090 is still priced around €3000 in various European regions, equivalent to about $3383 with VAT or $2819 without the 20% VAT applied.

This price point represents an astounding 41% mark-up over the original MSRP of $1999. Comparatively, the median ticket price in Week 13 reached €3, 079, translating to approximately $3479 with VAT and $2899 without it. On a more optimistic note, it appears that the “Best Price”for the RTX 5090 has decreased, now offering a purchase option at €2, 229, down from €2, 534 during Week 13, which aligns with the original launch price in Europe. However, this price stability remains inconsistent.

In the case of the RTX 5080, its median price has only seen a meager drop of €40, landing at €1, 389 compared to €1, 430 in Week 13. This reflects a 24% increase over the original €1, 189 MSRP in the EU, though it’s relatively closer to the expected pricing when contrasted with the RTX 5090. Meanwhile, the RTX 5070 Ti continues to struggle with a median price of €950, a reduction of roughly €55 since Week 13, while the RTX 5070 persists at €35 above its launch price, with only a minor 5% median price drop.

RTX 5090 Newegg May

As for the North American market, the situation appears to be equally disheartening; the RTX 5090 consistently retails near or above $3000, with many units unavailable on major platforms like Amazon and Newegg. The pricing for the RTX 5080 is similarly inflated, with the cheapest model priced at $1389, whereas premium editions are often priced above $1600.

For the RTX 5070 Ti, the median pricing hovers above $900, while the RTX 5070 is priced at $600 or more. Despite the passage of three months since the launch of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080, and over two months for the RTX 5070 Ti, the overall situation regarding prices shows little improvement.
