NVIDIA’s Blackwell AI Chip: A Central Topic in Trump-Xi Meeting With Potential Market Impact

The Chinese market has presented significant challenges for NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen Huang, especially amid the ongoing US-China trade tensions. Recent indications, however, suggest that the company might find a pathway to revitalize its position. As highlighted in a Bloomberg report, President Trump has expressed intentions to discuss NVIDIA’s Blackwell AI chip during discussions with his Chinese counterpart, underlining the importance of chips in potentially facilitating a favorable US-China trade agreement. This situation could mark a significant turning point for Huang and his team.

NVIDIA’s previous engagement with China had been bleak, with Huang acknowledging that the company’s market share has plummeted to zero in a market it once dominated. In earlier statements, he emphasized that the future AI solutions in China must revolve around the Blackwell architecture, as the previous Hopper lineup has reached its design limits. Current speculation suggests that NVIDIA’s upcoming Blackwell solution for China could be the B30A AI chip, contingent on the outcomes of the ongoing US-China negotiations.

The B30A AI chip is expected to incorporate advanced features such as 8-Hi HBM3E, utilize TSMC’s N4P process, and include the NVLink interconnect technology. Its performance boosts would be significantly attributable to the innovative Blackwell architecture. Notably, the B30A will employ a dual-die configuration, marking a shift from the monolithic design of its predecessor, the H20 AI chip. This design evolution may align the B30A with the specifications of the B200/B300, although these details remain speculative.

Should NVIDIA succeed in securing approval for its Blackwell AI chip in China, it could represent a pivotal recovery for the company—not only in revenue but also in reestablishing its market share within this crucial region.
