Challenges in the Desktop CPU Market

The desktop CPU segment appears to be struggling as well, with a notable year-over-year decline of 14.5% and a quarter-over-quarter drop of 20.6%.Traditionally, Q1 tends to be stable with a 10-year average of 0.6%; however, Q1 2025 deviated with a significant decline of 8.4%.

Overall PC GPU Market Trends

When we assess the broad PC GPU market, which incorporates integrated graphics (iGPUs), it experienced a 12% decline from the previous quarter. The market totaled 68.8 million units, while CPU sales fell to 61.9 million units. By 2028, the total installed base of PC GPUs is anticipated to reach 2.8 billion, with discrete GPUs projected to capture 15% of the market.

CPU Market Dynamics

On the CPU front, AMD is gradually chipping away at Intel’s market share, currently standing at 40.31% against Intel’s 59.69%.A few years ago, Intel commanded approximately 65-70% of the market. However, the introduction of AMD’s Ryzen CPUs has intensified competitive dynamics, particularly following the setbacks associated with Intel’s Arrow Lake-S “Core Ultra 200S”release.
